Life is not fair, and that thought extends onto the gridiron for defenders having to go up against Emery Jones. The versatile offensive tackle for Baton Rouge’s Catholic High School is a one-man gang in the trenches with swift feet, power, and an attitude moving jokers against their will with his 6-5, 325-pound, frame. The intensity and style of play he brings to the Bears’ roster helped his squad to a 5A Louisiana state championship in 2020 after taking down Shreveport’s Byrd High School 35-12.
Having all the potential in the world that looks like a future Power Five All-Conference performer, the collegiate ranks have streamlined their way to Jones’ in-box with 17 offers extended thus far. With the heavy SEC lean on offers and a state championship on the resume, Jones headed back to the RNG Lab for another detailed conversation.

Interview
Emery, we got to catch up before the 2020 season began then talking about all the hard work put into your offseason regimen. Looking back at the season, how did it go overall for you personally?
It went well. I made All-State and we won a state championship.
That says it all. The Bears offense is multifaceted running different formations, what were some of the formations executed during the season?
We were trying to overpower the defense, sometimes we’d do a tackle-over with me at tight end. We were overpowering the defense and using our size to our advantage.
How did your game grow as a run blocker?
Definitely with my strength and moving people off the line. I was way better with my pad level. I am getting better at all of it.
And what about with your pass-pro?
I got quicker, quicker laterally, and using my hands better.
In which game did you turn in your best personal performance?
(Edna) Karr.
Did you track your pancakes and/or knockdowns during the 2020 season?
No, I am not sure how many I had. Our coach gives us a log of how many “dogs” we got for each game.
Me putting you on the spot. If you had to guess, how many a game were you getting?
Maybe five or six a game. Against Karr, I got seven dogs.
Is there at least one trait to your game that either the fans or college scouts may overlook that you feel is a strength?
A lot of people tell me I move well for my size. Not too much gets overlooked.
Now that the offseason is in full swing, what are you working on with your skills?
I am working on getting quicker and stronger. I want to keep moving as well as I do.
What are some of the workouts you are doing in the weight room to get stronger?
Cleans, squats, bench, and shoulder press. All the stuff to get my body in shape. I am doing a lot of running in basketball.
How is the basketball season going?
Pretty good. We lost two games, won three. All the football players are back.
How is it going for you? Do you know any of your averages?
Pretty good. I got 14 points against Zachary and 11 against EA. It is going pretty good right now. I can’t complain.
Let’s get into recruiting. Which schools are now showing interest but have not offered yet?
Notre Dame is sending a lot of mail. TCU, Texas Tech, and Clemson is sending mail on Twitter and to my house.
How high is the offer total now?
I have 17 with Auburn being my latest. I got that one on Tuesday.
Jones’ Offer Sheet: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Houston, Louisiana, LSU, Louisiana Tech, Ole Miss, Penn State, Texas A&M, Tulane, Vanderbilt, and Virginia
Congrats.
Thank you, sir.
When visits start up again, are there any schools you’d like to go see?
As many as possible. I want get into it with my visits.
As a big recruit in Louisiana, when National Signing Day is over, what are you looking at with the various programs and their signees?
I am not looking at five-stars or who is committing at my position. I want to know what it will look like when I get there, their playing style, and how I fit in.
Emery, always great getting time in with you. Wishing you success with your basketball season until we talk again.
Thank you, sir.
