Based off of the 2015 win-loss record for the Wildcats, a number of 2016 recruits could see the field early as true freshman. Kansas State has some highly regarded talent heading to Manhattan ready to help head coach Bill Snyder and staff flip the script on last season’s 6-7 finish.
KSU overall had a balanced offense in 2015 gaining 2,050 yards on the ground and 2,288 in the passing game but struggled against top competition to consistently move the chains. Even more troubling, on defense the Wildcats were outgained by the opposition both on the ground and in the air allowing 2,167 and 3,712 yards respectively.
Most fans will look at the quarterback position as an immediate need for upgrade, but the Wildcats have quality depth returning at this position. 2015 starter Joe Hubener returns this season along with Alex Delton and Jesse Ertz all return for the Wildcats in 2016. Another possible dual-threat fighting for playing time will be Fort Osage 4-star Skylar Thompson. Thompson is an early enrollee available in the spring so the competition under center should be a fun one.
The offensive line is the main source of concern for Kansas State faithful. With several players gone from last season, it will be important to get the new blood to gel on the offensive line. Breontae Matthews, a 6’6”, 315 pound, junior college offensive tackle transfer is someone that will likely see the field in 2016. Another signee expected to contribute immediately is Abdul Beecham. Beecham, another junior college transfer (Blinn, TX) has already signed his letter of intent and will likely compete for one of the guard spots during spring football. With every position up for grabs along the offensive line, keeping an eye on Matthews and Beecham would be a good idea during spring and summer practices.
Other top recruits who could contribute early on offense includes wide receivers Corey Sutton (Charlotte, NC) and Byron Pringle (El Dorado, KS). In-state commit, running back Mike McCoy (Topeka, KS), has the size at 6’2”, 215 pounds, to help carry the load with returning starter Charles Jones.
