2017 Indiana 4-Star LB Pete Werner Commits to Ohio State

Another verbal commitment for the Buckeyes, another four-star recruit added to Ohio State’s 2017 recruiting class. The latest highly prized player pledging to OSU came on Sunday when Indiana linebacker Pete Werner announced his commitment.

Werner worked his way into being one of the more highly recruited linebackers in the 2017 class with Cathedral High School. The Indianapolis squad fought to a 7-5 record in 2016 after posting an 8-4 mark a year ago. College coaches followed Werner’s progress on the field seeing him become one of the more highly sought after players in Big Ten country.

During the off-season, Werner committed to Notre Dame, but Ohio State kept fighting for the 6-3, 220 pound, backer. The Fighting Irish hosted Werner on several unofficial visits throughout the season but a parting of ways came on Nov. 29. On Dec. 9, Werner took an official visit to Columbus announcing his new school on Sunday.

Werner posted his decision on Twitter writing, “Extremely excited to commit to The Ohio State University!”

Some of the other teams to offer Werner included Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, Illinois, Cincinnati, Cal, Duke, Michigan State, Purdue, Pitt, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Tennessee, and Penn State. Werner was around 30 total offers when he committed to the Buckeyes.
