It is only the second week of the 2017 high school football season and we have already had a ton of exciting games and performances put on by the talented young athletes in Louisiana. This past weekend there were quite a few thrilling finishes and close games then went down to the wire around the state, not including the big regional showcase Battle on the Border event going on at Independence Stadium. It just proves that anything can happen in the game of football and any team can win or lose on any given night.
Highlighted Week Two Matchups
Captain Shreve Gators 19, Woodlawn Knights 18
The story of this contest was the performance of senior running back James Ivory who had 30 rushes for a whopping 218 yards and two touchdowns. He became the first Gator to eclipse the 200-yard mark since 2011 and is becoming one of the best backs in all of Shreveport.
Woodlawn kept it close by relying on star running back Trivenskey Mosley despite the senior finishing with just 52 yards and one touchdown.
Allen (TX) Eagles 28, Evangel Christian Academy Eagles 7
Allen won their 47th straight regular season contest by dismantling the visitors from Shreveport, 28-7. The star of the home team was senior running back Brock Sturges who ran for 175 yards, had 62 receiving yards, and accounted for all four of his team’s touchdowns.
In the loss, Evangel was held to under 100 total yards of offense and even with a stellar defense it is hard to win games with that offensive performance.
North DeSoto Griffins 35, North Webster Knights 7
North DeSoto senior wideout Maguire Parker put on another show Friday night by catching three passes for 113 yards with two touchdowns despite having an ankle issue. The Griffins’ defense also came out in full-force as they held the Knights passing game to just 19 yards and recovered three fumbles.
North Webster’s lone bright spot came in the form of senior star running back TJ Hawthorne who ran for over 100 yards and scored his team’s lone touchdown.
