2017 Oxford CB Devin Rockette Decommits from Ole Miss

Decommitments in the high school ranks from a college team happens all the time. Despite the usual action each time a player decommits, fan bases are still shocked with everyone wanting to know why. All decommitments are interesting but one that catches the eye more so than usual happened on Friday when Ole Miss lost Class of 2017 cornerback Devin Rockette.

Rockette plays for Oxford High School, in the Rebels backyard. The Ole Miss coaching staff could not find an easier player to scout and maintain a connection with than someone in their own city. The Rebels helped put Rockette on the map going from an under the radar recruit to a player of interest.

The 5-11, 165 pound, local talent committed to Ole Miss on June 16 after being offered eight days earlier. Since Rockette’s pledge, he has reported interest from Alabama, Louisiana-Lafayette, and Mississippi State yet no reported offers.

Ole Miss started coming around on Rockette after he was part of a Chargers team that went 12-3 in 2015. Rockette finished the year with 53 tackles, a fumble recovery, an interception, and 20 passes defended. For his efforts, he was given a three-star ranking by 247Sports as the No. 30 player overall in Mississippi.

Rockette posted his decommitment on Twitter writing “God Bless” followed by a statement:

Mississippi has had two other decommitments in the month of September losing defensive end Rasool Clemons on Sept. 9 and defensive end Tim Bonner the next day. Both Clemons and Bonner play for East Mississippi C.C.

Ole Miss now has 12 verbal commitments to their 2017 class. 247Sports rates Mississippi’s class as the No. 31 haul in the nation, 11th in the SEC.
