One thing fans of high school football in Angie, Louisiana, could expect over the last few years is seeing Desmond Harry do something amazing on the field. The 5-10, 170 pound, athlete showcased his talents on offense and on defense helping Varnado High School to 17 wins over the past two seasons. All the hard work for Harry is paying dividends catching eyes from college scouts.

Scott was an end zone magnet during his junior season rushing for 1,059 yards with 15 touchdowns scored. His determination to get butts out of seats did not end there with four touchdowns in the passing attack and three two-point conversions completed. The stat line was bested during his senior campaign with an estimated 1,205 yards on the ground and roughly 300 yards in the aerial attack off some 17 passes secured. In total, Harry rushed for 16 scored and posted three more on the board off passes hauled in for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats offense hummed along posting an average of 30 points per game running into the third round of the playoffs before a hard-fought loss to Logansport. With six offers on the table and a wealth of plays to cover, I sat down with Harry for a Recruiting News Guru exclusive end of season interview getting the inside scoop on all.

Interview

Desmond, the Wildcats put on a show in 2017 with an 8-4 record and a three-game run into the playoffs. How did the season go for you guys this year?

“It went great. It started off not too good, we had a lot of adversity to overcome, but we found ourselves. We finished like we did last year. Our senior class is special and we finished strong.”

How were your athletic skills used on the field this year?

“They used me in a lot of different ways. Sometimes I was lined up at running back, in the slot, and at wide receiver. The coaches had a lot of inside runs and outside zone runs set for me.”

How did you take advantage of those opportunities?

“With my speed. I was patient looking for the holes and then took off.”

How did your game improve on offense?

“I improved my speed this year. I was beating angles. My hands and route running improved as well.”

Which game was your best and why do you consider that to be your best game?

“Arcadia. My paw-paw had just had surgery, he was not able to come to my game. I played to my utmost for him. That was the first game without him being there.”

Have you already started your offseason workouts?

“Yes, sir.”

What are you focusing on with your workouts this year?

“Getting stronger.”

Are you playing any other varsity sports this winter or spring?

“Baseball and track.”

How is everything in the classroom?

“My GPA is a 3.6.”

What is your best score on the ACT?

“I scored a 20 on the ACT.”

How is everything going on the recruiting trail? Which schools are showing interest?

“Navy, Bethany College in Kansas, Methodist University, and Avila are showing the most interest right now.”

How many offers do you have now?

“I have six; Millsap, Navy, Avila, Bethany, Coe College, and Southern Prep.”

Nice. Have you taken any official visits yet?

“No, but I have planned visits in January to Navy, Bethany, and Avila.”

Good luck with your visits. Last question. Looking back on your high school career, what are you most proud of with your time on the gridiron?

“I am most proud of making history at a place that people look for nothing but bad. It is my understanding that we were the first Varnado team to make the third round of the playoffs. I was the first player to get to 1A Player of the Week multiple times in the same season. We did a lot of very good things this year that I am proud of for myself and the team.”

Desmond, thanks for your time today and good luck with your offseason workouts.

“Thank you.”
