If recruiting stock was charted on Class of 2018 quarterback Woodrow “Trey” Lowe III, the right side of the graph would be sailing upwards. After three years of cultivating his talents at the varsity level against Tennessee 3A competition, Lowe enters the off-season of his senior season as one of the hottest regional recruits in the pocket with 15 offers on the table. Now fans and college coaches alike are eager to see what the Tigers rising star will do during his senior campaign.

Fans of Tennessee high school football may not be all-too familiar with Bolivar Central High School. The program has struggled in years past until the last two seasons. Big strides have been made in the win-loss column going from a three-win program to notching a 6-5 record in 2015 and an 8-3 mark last season. All the credit cannot be given to Lowe, but a great deal can be attributed to their dual-threat quarterback.

Lowe’s stat line will not overwhelm but the 6-4, 200 pound, talent’s reel will. Lowe has a strong arm able to throw on a line and with touch releasing the ball on the run, with a snap of his wrist, or with different arm angles eluding pressure in the pocket. On run-pass-option calls, Lowe shows his mastery of the offense freezing outmatched defenders creating hesitation while using his 4.6 40-yard dash speed to move the ball downfield. Lowe completed 61 percent of his passes during his junior season covering 1,601 yards with 20 touchdown connections made with an additional four rushing scores.

The three-star recruit has garnered offers from North Carolina, West Virginia, Houston, Arkansas State, Army, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, South Alabama, Ohio, Southern Miss, Alcorn State, Georgia Southern, Navy, Memphis, and Illinois with squads like Ole Miss, Indiana, Vanderbilt, Duke, Connecticut, and Oregon showing various levels of interest. The recruiting process that has picked up a full-head of steam during the spring may come to an end in July with a planned verbal commitment looming for Lowe.

In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I sat down with Lowe covering his growth on the field during his junior season, off-season workouts, and recruitment to date.

Interview

Trey, what were some of the most important things you learned on the field with all the game experienced you received during your junior year?

How did your game get better last year?

“I’d say throwing on the run. I got good at that. My footwork got better. I was faster moving around in the pocket.”

What have you been working on this spring?

How does the team look heading into your senior year?

“I think we have a chance to win a state championship. We have a shot at it.”

Will you do anything differently within the offense in 2017?

“The past three years we really have not had a back-up quarterback. I will run a little more this year because we have a backup.”

Did you get any feedback from the coaches during the camp on your performance?

“Yes, sir. Coach Heck (Keith Heckendorf – quarterbacks coach), he’s a great coach. He had some great teaching points to help me. He told me good job on multiple occasions. He was giving me tips. Telling me to throw in this spot or into that spot. I moved on and tried to do better next time.”

“I’ve always had the drive and motivation for the game. I have always done it and I have always gone hard.”
