After a breakout junior season with Upland High School, word started traveling up and down the west coast about Class of 2019 running back Cameron Davis. The 6-0, 180 pound, athlete helped the Highlanders to a 12-1 record in 2017 by rushing for over 1,200 yards with 20 touchdowns sporting a 9.3 yard per carry average along the way. With interest building from USC, UCLA, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Arizona State and Nebraska, among others, and offers on the table from Utah, Howard, Cal, and Washington, on Sunday, Jan. 29, Davis verbally committed to the Huskies.

In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I sat down with the three-star rated talent getting the scoop on how the Huskies landed one of the top running backs in the state of California.

When did you verbally commit to Washington?

“I verbally committed Sunday morning.”

“The coaches were really excited and cannot wait to get me back up to their school.”

How are they wanting to use you within their offensive scheme and how is that a good fit for you?

“They are planning on using me at running back, and I feel like I would be a good fit in their scheme because my running style is similar to Myles Gaskin.”

What was the selling point for you committing to the Huskies?

“The selling point for me committing was how great the coaches are and the fact that we keep in touch and have a good relationship.”

When did you visit Washington?

“I visited Washington in July, and that’s when I received my offer.”

Do you plan on visiting Washington again this spring or summer?

“Yes. I plan on going back up there in April to check out how they run their practices and get a better feel for everything up there.”

Are you going to help recruit players to join you in the 2019 class?

“Yeah I’m actually starting to recruit some class of 2019 players already.”

How are your offseason workouts going?

“My offseason workouts have been going great. I’ve been training with Rharebreed. I’ve been working on my speed and becoming more explosive.”

Have you scheduled any camp or combines yet?

“Yes. I’m planning on attending the Rivals and Under Armour camps.”

Cameron, thanks for your time today and congratulations, again, on your commitment.
