If you ever wanted to see how high school teams can scheme against one defensive person, that is run away from him or bring additional resources to the point of attack, go watch Tyas Martin play during the 2020 season. The 6-4, 315-pound, defensive lineman is a terror in the trenches for Jacksonville High School demanding the opposition double-team him, yet that did not stop him from compiling 55 stops, 20 tackles for a loss, 10 sacks, and forcing three fumbles a year ago. The productivity in the trenches against 6A Arkansas squads has brought seven offers Martin’s way, but the three-star recruit has effectively ended his process with a verbal commitment to the Colorado Buffaloes on July 17.
In an RNG stylized Q&A update interview, Martin makes another visit to the Lab covering ground on his workouts and growing relationship with the CU staff.

Interview
Tyas, let’s catch up on your offseason workouts. What have you been working on with your technique this spring and summer?
This offseason I have been doing a lot of get offs, reading linemen, reading pass and run, reacting, and conditioning myself.
Don’t give away any secrets, but are you working on any new moves for the upcoming season?
Yes, I am working more on my spin move, club-rip, club-swim, and sharpening up all the moves I have.
What have you been doing to keep adding power and strength to what you bring to the field?
I have been doing a lot of upper body workouts, curls, triceps, and bench. For my lower body, I am doing leg press, working on being more explosive, and working on my hips.
How have you taken your conditioning, speed, and agility to that next level this summer?
I start off walking three miles, then I run 10-yard sprints doing those sprints 20 times.
Have you been watching film on college and/or NFL players to further your understanding of playing tackle and the game?
Yes, I have been watching film every night. Aaron Donald’s (Rams) game film is one of the ones I have been watching to see how I can get better. I have also been watching Colorado games from last year.
What defensive front will the Titans execute this season?
We are running three down linemen.
Where are you lining up in the scheme?
At end and tackle. I will be head-up on the tackle this season.
When did you guys start fall camp or have you already?
We have already, we started last week.
How is the team looking?
We are looking good. This season we have a new coaching staff; we are getting prepared for everything.
Who are you guys playing in your first game?
We got Mills in our first game. We are preparing for them and watching film on them. Last year we lost to them, we are trying to come back from that this season.
What has you excited about being back on the field?
Just to be back out there to play with my guys. We’ve been looking forward to this season, we want state. We’ve been working hard. It has been fun.
Let’s wrap talking about your commitment to Colorado. How did that initial contact with the Buffaloes’ coaching staff go from interest, offer, and then to a commitment in mid-July?
My trainer, he’s the cousin of the defensive line coach at Colorado (Chris Wilson). They’ve been recruiting me hard. They liked what they saw, extended the offer, and we built a relationship from there. We talk every today; we have a good relationship. I can come in and play early. Coach Wilson is a great defensive line coach. Colorado is the right fit for me.
No one knows when the campuses will open back up, but when they do when are you planning on visits the Colorado campus?
Their first game was supposed to be against Utah, I was planning to be there for their first home game. But now that the season has been called off, I am not sure when I will go up there next.
Tyas, always great catching up with you. Wishing you and the Titans success this season chasing that ring. Keep up the hard work.
Yes, sir.
