Class of 2020 receiver Kayshon Boutte is that player who can fit into any collegiate system and be a difference maker. He schooled opposing 4A Louisiana defenses in 2017 for Westgate High School drawing college programs to the yard. To date, the 5-11.5, 185-pound, playmaker has hauled in 10 offers coming from Arkansas, West Virginia, Arizona State, Kansas, Tennessee, Louisiana, Missouri, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, and in-state national powerhouse LSU. In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive, I sat down with the New Iberia area talent for a one-on-one interview covering his skillset, offseason workouts, and recruiting prospects.
Interview
Kayshon, you had an explosive season in 2017, heading into the year did you expect to be as productive as you were on the field?
“No, sir. I knew I was going to do well just not as great as I did. Honestly, I shocked myself. I did things I did not know I could do.”
You’re no stranger to double-teams, is it nice to walk down the sidewalk without anyone around you?
(Laughs) “Yeah.”
How did you attack double-teams throughout the season?
“Last season, my coach would give me a route, a corner or a go, and I would just go up and get it. They all know I have hops and speed. I would just beat them deep and look for the ball over the top.”
Your speed pops on game film, how fast are you?
“I ran a 4.5-flat at LSU.”
Nice. What do you consider your overall strengths as a receiver?
“My speed, my ability to catch the ball, and my focus on the game.”
What are you focused on with your game this offseason?
“I have to improve my footwork, improve my hands, and get better out of my breaks.”
Where all will you line up on the field during your junior year?
“I am playing safety, outside receiver, and slot.”
Are you excited about getting snaps in at safety this year?
“Yes, sir.”
Did any college programs come by Westgate this offseason to meet with you in-person or watch you in practice?
“LSU was at the spring game. Louisiana Tech, Missouri State, West Virginia, and Louisiana came by school as well.”
Which other schools are showing heavy recruiting interest?
“Arkansas.”
Which schools have offered you?
“Arkansas, West Virginia, Kansas, and Tennessee, LSU, Louisiana, Missouri, and LA Tech (Louisiana Tech).”

Have you attended any college camps this summer?
“Yes, sir. I have attended camps at LSU and Arkansas.”
How did the Arkansas camp go?
“It went well. There was good competition there.”
What about the LSU camp, how did that go?
“It went great. I did what I had to do. I didn’t drop too many balls – I had a good day. I handled business.”
Do you have any upcoming camps scheduled?
“We have a three-day team camp at University of Louisiana.”
Which schools have you visited in 2018?
“LSU and Arkansas.”
How did the Arkansas visit go?
“I loved it.”
What stood out to you during your visit to Fayetteville?
“Everything really. It was nice. That was my first time seeing a facility like that.”
What about the LSU visit, how did that go?
“It was a good visit. I was there for a senior day. They showed us around the campus, I saw everything.”
Back to football. What goals have you set for the rest of the summer?
“My goals are to stay in shape, work on my game to get better, and maintain myself as a top player in the 2020 class.”
When the lights come on for the 2018 season, what will be your motivation?
“I think about what I did last year and how much better I could have been. I want to be even better.”
On the field, are you a talker or do you let your play do the talking?
“I let my actions do the talking.”
Kayshon, thanks for your time today and good luck with the rest of your offseason workouts.
“Thank you.”
