High school football fans in Southern California have seen the 2019 season coming two years in advance and are not surprised by the play from receiver Beaux Collins. As great as Collins’ stat line of 30 receptions for 733 yards with 10 scores in nine games is, those who have seen the ascension of the 6-4.5, 197-pound, talents knew that he could dominate games once given a chance. That chance has come this year helping his St. John Bosco squad to a 9-1 record and a No. 3 MaxPreps national ranking. As good as he is, his potential still seems greater, and that upside mixed with the current package has brought about 27 scholarship offers for the four-star recruit.

In an RNG catch-up interview, I got a few minutes with Collins before the Braves enter the Division I CIF Southern Section Playoffs facing Calabasas High School for an overview on his season and recruiting visits.

Interview

Beaux, your production on the field has taken a big step forward this season. What has been like for you becoming one of the go-to target for DJ (Uiagalelei)?

“It has been great knowing the coaches and DJ believe in me to win on each rep. Being an impact player for my team is most important to me.”

Seeing you throughout the offseason, I know you were always working hard on your game. Where are you seeing that hard work and time put in pay off on the field this year?

“The work is showing with me being more physical on the field. I am able to move guys out of my way when needed and that has helped my blocking. I am syncing my hips on routes, getting in and out of my breaks faster, running sharper routes, and my separation speed has improved over last year.”

How are teams trying to cover you?

“The majority of the teams, besides Mater Dei, run a zone and then rally to the ball. We spread the field so well and are so explosive that we are too tough to cover one-on-one.”

Which game this season has been your best?

“The Liberty (NV) game was my best. I was 4 for 4, four receptions for four touchdowns for 170 yards.”

You have a ton of offers, how many in total now?

“Twenty-seven.”

Collins’ Offer Sheet: Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Nevada, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas, UCLA, USC, Utah, Vanderbilt, Washington State, and Washington

Are there any programs showing interest but have not offered yet?

“Wisconsin.”

This fall, have you taken any game day visits?

“Yes. I have taken game day visits to Ohio State, Clemson, and USC.”

How did the Ohio State trip go?

“That was a great visit. It was great flying out there seeing what a game day in Columbus was like. It was great seeing Coach (Brian) Hartline (WR).”

And the Clemson visit, how did that go?

“That was great. I met with Coach (Dabo) Swinney (HC) and he met my parents. It was great to have them there on the visit with me this time. Last time I visited Clemson, they were not able to go with me.”

The backyard visit to USC, how did that go?

“It has been great visiting USC, I have been to the Coliseum a couple of times now. They are turning the energy around up there. Coach (Clay) Helton (HC) and Coach Clancy (Pendergast – DC) are doing a great job at USC.”

Are there any planned visits coming up?

“I want to get out to Alabama, LSU, Georgia, and maybe Texas as well.”

The Braves host a very talented Calabasas team on the 15th, what kind of game are you in for when going against the Coyotes defense?

“We are expecting a pretty high-energy game. We have to win each match up on each play. They have a talented secondary; I have known (safety) Larry Turner since we were kids. It should be a fun game.”

Beaux, always great catching up with you. Thanks for your time and good luck to you and the Braves in the playoffs.

“Thank you.”
