Since the end of the 2017 college football season, the Clemson Tigers have pounced on the competition winning 19 consecutive games which includes the 2019 College Football National Championship over Alabama. That dominance has permeated into recruiting where the 2020 class is ranked No. 1 nationally and the 2021 class is starting to take similar shape. The Tigers are now ranked fifth nationally in the 2021 haul thanks to the addition of four-star offensive lineman Marcus Tate on Tuesday.
The Tigers’ first verbal commitment of the 2021 class out of Florida was a big one. Tate (6-4.5, 318) is the anchor on the line for University High School. The Fort Lauderdale squad is 4-1 on the season ranked as the No. 7 team in-state in the 4A classification (MaxPreps) coming off an 11-2 run in 2018. Over the past two seasons, Tate has racked up 21 total offers from some of the top college programs in the nation. Clemson jumped into the mix on Tate offering him during an early June visit. Before his commitment to Clemson, Tate also visited Georgia, Auburn, Alabama, Georgia Tech, and LSU.
Clemson wrapped up their highly prized recruit with a visit for the Texas A&M game, a 24-10 victory over the Aggies. His commitment announcement on Twitter included a quote from rap legend Tupac Shakur:
Tate is the second four-star offensive lineman in as many days to commit to Clemson’s 2021 class. On Monday, the Tigers added the top-rated center, Damascus (MD) High School’s Ryan Linthicum. Linthicum committed to Clemson over 16 other reported offers.
