The Buckeyes one day hold atop the 2017 recruiting rankings after landing four-star junior college cornerback Kendall Sheffield on Monday took a hit the next day when four-star Nevada wide receiver Tyjon Lindsey decommitted from Ohio State.

Lindsey’s blazing speed and playmaking abilities in the open field helped the former California high school product grow into one of the more highly recruited players in his class. After pulling in 34 passes for 884 yards with 15 scores as a sophomore, Lindsey had a fantastic season with Las Vegas’ Bishop Gorman squad in 2015 securing 45 passes for 1,117 yards with 14 scores. His production was slowed with the Gaels during his senior year with five receptions for 125 yards and just two scores.

The Buckeyes were successful recruiting Bishop Gorman’s squad landing quarterback Tate Martell, defensive tackle Haskell Garrett, and Lindsey. Lindsey committed on Aug. 22 taking his official visit to Columbus on Oct. 29. The U.S. Army All-American posted his decision on Twitter late Tuesday night writing, “I will like to announce that I have OFFICIALLY opened my recruiting process back up.”

Two hours before his announcement Lindsey gave a cryptic warning to OSU fans posting, “Have you ever been so confused about something to the point you wished you couldn’t think about it anymore? Yeah me too.”

Lindsey has over 20 scholarship offers with teams like Georgia, Alabama, Washington, Michigan, Auburn, Cal, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Nebraska, Oregon, UCLA, USC, and Texas A&M all after him.

OSU will go on without Lindsey but the staff is currently left with just one wide receiver commit in the class, St. Thomas Aquinas standout Trevon Grimes. Both Rivals and 247Sports rates the Buckeyes 2017 class, with 18 verbal commits, No. 2 in the nation.
