Hard to believe Ramon Brown is just entering his sophomore season after the tape he produced in 2018. Last season the Lloyd C. Bird standout was part of a vicious one-two punch out of the backfield with Class of 2021 tailback Tre Mason. Mason carried the rock 287 times for 1,860 yards with 15 touchdowns while Brown picked up 631 yards off 72 totes with five touchdowns averaging 8.8 yards per carry. The dynamic duo helped the Skyhawks to a 9-3 season a year ago; what will they do next?

Brown, now a year older, a year wise, and a year stronger is ready to run over 5A Virginia defenses in a different way. The big (5-11, 195) and fast (4.5 – laser) back is just coming into his own with unlimited potential, which makes for a highly anticipated 2019 season especially among college scouts. Brown already has four offers on the table with a lot more ready to drop.

In an RNG exclusive interview, I sat down with the Chesterfield area five-star recruit to learn more about his overall game and growing recruiting opportunities.

Interview

Ramon, the wait is finally over. You and the Skyhawks finally get to take the field on Friday after all the work put in over the offseason. How pumped are you for the kickoff on Friday?

“I am super pumped. I cannot wait to be honest. I can’t wait to step on the field. That means we are one step closer to our goal of winning state.”

You got a chance to shine last season out of the backfield for the Skyhawks. How did those meaningful snaps help you with your offseason workouts?

“It helped a lot. It helped me focus on my speed and agility, and in the weight room more. I went from rec-ball to varsity. Everyone was fast and everyone was hitting at the varsity level. I put in a lot out time in the weight room, with my field work, and speed work this offseason.”

When last season had ended, what did you feel were the strengths to your game as a running back?

“My vision, my cutting, and my mix of speed and power.”

What were you focusing on with the technical part of your game as a running back this offseason?

“I worked a lot on blocking over the summer. My coach told me I need to block more in the Spread out of the gun.”

You also played at corner, what did you work on over the spring and summer months on that side of the ball?

“I didn’t work too much at corner. That is more when they need me, I will go in thing. I was a backup last season. If they need me, they will put me in.”

Where all will we see you on the field this season?

“I’m not on special teams this season but I am playing running back, some at slot, and some at quarterback.”

Did you go to any college camps this summer?

“Yes. I went to Wake Forest, UVA (Virginia), and Virginia Tech.”

At which camp did you best showcase your skills?

“I want to say the UVA was my best.”

What did you do well at the UVA camp?

“It was more my route running. The coaches liked it. I was able to show my speed and lateral quickness at that camp.”

What is the best 40-yard dash you’ve posted this offseason?

“At The Opening I ran a 4.53.”

Wow. And that is laser-timed. Impressive.

“Thank you.”

I know we are just coming out of the dead period, but which schools that you know of are showing interest?

“N.C. State is the only one I know of; they have been to school a couple of times to meet with me.”

How many offers do you have?

“I have four offers; Maryland, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest.”

Very cool. Aside from the camps, did you take any visits this offseason?

“Yes. I visited Virginia Tech and Maryland.”

Tell me about the Virginia Tech trip.

“It went great. Their facilities are nice. I camped there earlier that day and they had us came back for the visit later that day. They showed us around and we met the players and coaches.”

And the Maryland trip, how did you like that one?

“I loved it. That is all I can say. When they took us on the practice field, my dad and I were on the field enjoying it. We liked how they took care of things there and the environment there.”

Are you hitting up any schools this fall?

“Yes. We are planning on visiting Virginia Tech, UVA, and Maryland.”

Ramon, thanks for your time today. I had fun learning more about you and your game on the field.

“Thank you.”
