For players who do not think spring ball means much on the gridiron, go check out Aaron “AJ” Holloway. The Class of 2025 linebacker for the Buford Wolves is killing it. Kentucky, Texas, Tennessee, Kansas State, Texas A&M, Louisville, Maryland, and Arizona State have all offered this month after seeing the 6-3, 225-pound, defender in action. Those scholarship opportunities are just the beginning for the rising star.
The Wolves will feature Holloway at inside and outside linebacker with some short yardage snaps at fullback to clear the hole. His role in Buford’s scheme was explained.
“We run a 3-4 base defense,” Holloway said. “At middle linebacker, I am in charge of the defense. I make most of the calls on the field, and I line them up to our strength. I am the quarterback of the defense. At outside linebacker, I also make calls. I make sure our middle linebacker is aligned right to make sure we can make the play. My coach loves using me as pass rusher; I love going off the edge and getting in the backfield.”
Time has been put in to refine all the tools in the proverbial belt.
“I love working on my pass rushing moves,” Holloway stated. “I am working on my drops, coming off the line, getting off the blocks using my hands, and I have been lifting weights.”
The eight offers dropped have come after displaying the skills this spring.
“This spring, I was showcasing my technique and footwork; that is what coaches like about me,” Holloway shared. “They like my ability on the field, going against our offensive linemen seeing me get off blocks and attacking the backfield.”
The technique and understanding of the game are on point, and so is the effort in the weight room.
“My bench max is 305, my power clean is 295, and my front squat max is 355,” Holloway stated.
UCF, Florida, Oklahoma, and Duke are among the teams showing next level interest with a slew of programs that came by to see him this offseason.
“Wake Forest, Oklahoma, Georgia Tech, Ohio State, Florida, Florida State, Georgia State, Tennessee, Texas, and a whole bunch of other schools but that’s all I can think of right now,” Holloway said.
With teams giving Holloway an opportunity to play at the next level, he wants to return the favor by seeing them this summer.
“All the schools that I have offers from, I plan to visit this summer,” Holloway shared.
As a perspective recruit, Holloway spoke about what is important for him to learn when being on campus in the coming weeks.
“I want to see about their academics, how their program will benefit my future, how they work out, and I want to see their facilities,” Holloway stated. “I also want to look at their community around the school.”
One college camp is highly likely for Holloway.
“I might go to a Clemson camp,” Holloway said. “I love going to that camp. Other than that, I will see.”
