Over at Enterprise High School in Alabama, the Wildcats have one of the best all-around 2025 talents in the nation on the roster in Eric Winters. The 6-2, 200-pound, prospect is the embodiment of versatility on defense able to crack helmets at safety, linebacker, and can even come off the edge putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks in a different way. The do-everything nature of Winters’ game has brought 19 offers to the party.
The notion of putting an elite athlete in spots to make plays will amp up this fall.
“We run a 3-4 base, but we have multiple defenses that we run,” Winters said. “I’m all over the place at safety, linebacker, and outside linebacker – it is a lot. I even play some offense. This season they have me at all the receiver spots, and some at QB (Wildcat) too.”
Looking to the next level, Winters was asked at which position he sees himself settling in at over time, “I do see myself eventually at linebacker. I feel I will outgrow the safety position.”
Working on his footwork and the little details to his game, Winters shared the strengths to his game on the field.
“The biggest thing about my game is I am versatile,” Winters stated. “I can play a new spot on each snap. Also, nine times of out 10, I feel that I am the smartest guy on the field.”
With Alabama, Florida State, and Florida showing interest, Winters listed the teams making regular contact.
“Man, Auburn is a lot, for real,” Winters said. “Georgia is some, Clemson too, and Oklahoma.”
Over the spring months, Winters took trips to Auburn, Oklahoma, and Ole Miss. One of the summer stops was with Clemson.
“Clemson was good,” Winters stated. “I camped first, then we went on a tour; that was cool.”
The Crimson Tide also got the in-state talent on campus this summer.
“At Alabama, I toured first and then I camped,” Winters shared. “That was cool too. I talked to their coaches; they want to see how my body fills out this summer and this season.”
The back-to-back defending champs got the four-star in Athens for a private workout.
“It went really well,” Winters stated. “It was more of a private workout. I stayed all day. I got there at 10:00 and stayed until 5:00 or 5:30. I did my workout, and I was with the entire defensive staff all day.”
Summer trips, camps, and workouts are on hold for now as Winters focuses his energy back on the gridiron and hardwood.
