Alabama picks up former Auburn DT commit Quinnen Williams

The Crimson Tide continued to roll through the recruiting trails during the month of June landing their 17th overall verbal commitment to their 2016 class on Tuesday when Quinnen Williams announced he was heading to Tuscaloosa.

The 6’4”, 265 pound, defensive tackle committed to the Auburn Tigers on January 31 making numerous on campus visits to The Plains since. On May 31 Williams attended an Alabama camp and by June 5 he had decommitted from Auburn.

Alabama coaches Mario Cristobal and Bo Davis (defensive line coach) are credited with the tough task of flipping the Wenonah School (Birmingham, AL) talent after he was admittedly a lifelong Auburn fan.

Williams had limited his recruiting with only a few schools offering the 3-star recruit. Ole Miss never appeared to be in the running for the big man who had 85 tackles, 15 sacks, and five forced fumbles in 2014. Making his announcement via Twitter Williams posted, “Blessed beyond Blessed, blessed to be apart of the Bama family. Roll Tide.”

A picture posted with the announcement titled “Decision Day” had his Top 3 schools listed: Alabama, Auburn, and Mississippi State.

If past recruiting history is any indication of Alabama’s efforts along the defensive front they may be done taking in D-linemen. Head coach Nick Saban has accepted verbal commitments from Killeen, Texas star defensive tackle Kendell Jones, Meridian, Mississippi tackle Raekwon Davis, Farmington Hills, Michigan defensive end Khalid Kareem, and now Williams. The 2015 class was composed of two defensive ends, Mekhi Brown and Anfernee Jennings, and two defensive tackles, Daron Payne and Jonathan Taylor.
