More than the person running backs want to run behind and quarterbacks want forming the pocket, Williams Sanders is a message sender on the field. A first-off-the-bus kind of player, the 6-foot, 4-inch, 295-pound, offensive lineman comes to the Brookwood High School (Ala.) trenches ready to play. The recruiting process for the three-star is still ongoing, but two teams have set themselves up to officially host the 2024 prospect.
Holding 17 offers, more may soon be coming Sanders’ way.
“Alabama, LSU, and Mississippi State have been showing consistent interest and have invited me to their camps to finish up the evaluation process,” Sanders said.
Of the offering schools, there is a line of teams ready to pay for him to get on campus if possible.
“The teams reaching out the most are NC State, Duke, Troy, South Alabama, Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, and Arkansas State,” Sanders stated. “Those are the main ones. They are all talking to me, but those are the most consistent.”
Sanders has been shaking a lot of hands and hearing a lot of recruiting pitches this spring.
“I have been to Duke, NC State, Coastal Carolina, South Alabama, Alabama, and a few others in the earlier part of the spring,” Sanders shared.
The trip to Durham bonded player with coaches.
“It was awesome,” Sanders said. “I like the campus and their coaches. Head coach Mike Elko was awesome. I had a great visit there; I had a great time.”
The Wolfpack didn’t let Sanders down while in Raleigh.
“That was an awesome visit too,” Sanders shared. “Their offensive line coach, coach (Garett) Tujague, is a great guy. I loved watching him coach. They have two great offensive line coaches at NC State.”
The great visits into ACC territories will bring Sanders back on official visits.
“I have an official to Duke set June 16-18 and to NC State June 23-25,” Sanders stated.
Sanders detailed his interest in the Blue Devils that is leading to the June visit.
“Coach (Adam) Cushing (OL), and some of the stuff that he has said and done,” Sanders said. “He was coaching me up, and genuinely wants me there and wants to coach me. How I was received when I visited, and how he wants to coach me drove that home for me.”
The same affection is felt towards NC State’s coaching staff.
“It is the same with NC State, they seem so genuine,” Sanders shared. “Coach Tujague is a great guy, and he takes care of his players; that is something I would love be a part of.”
Summer camps could sway official visits for Sanders, but there is a list of teams that could host him.
“South Alabama is a big one,” Sanders said. “I have been talking to them about one. I have also been talking to Cincinnati about getting up there, but I am not sure if that will happen. Coastal Carolina, I have been talking to them a lot. I had a great visit when I went up there.
“Troy being one of the earlier colleges to start recruiting me and have been great to me along the way with high communication and much love. I know coach (Joe) Bernardi gets his o-line guys right on and off the field.”
