For the football fans that like watching tailbacks get after it, go watch Jordan Washington’s junior season Hudl film. Everything wanted in a next level back is on tape. Washinton (6-1, 215) has the power and toughness to run in between the tackles knocking box defenders on their ass with his shoulder, the field vision to find the holes, and the speed (4.5 laser) to take it to the house from anywhere on the field. Teams have extended 17 scholarship opportunities to the Helena High School (Ala.) talent with big interest still flowing his way.
The spring evaluation period was fruitful for Washington. Next level scouts got a deeper look at Washington’s skills after his eight-game 944-yard, 149-carry, 13-TD season last fall. Austin Peay, Appalachian State, Alabama State, Arkansas State, Tulane, East Carolina, and Middle Tennessee laid down offers for the three-star in the month of May.
Memphis was able to bring Washington to campus this offseason, “It went well. I liked Memphis a lot, and they run the ball.”
The teams showing interest, a lot of heavy hitters.
“The whole SEC, Penn State came by, Stanford, and Clemson,” Washington shared.
The interest in Washington is being sparked by camping at Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State with an Auburn camp set for Wednesday.
Details to the Mississippi State camp were given.
“I liked it,” Washington said. “I did well. Their coaches liked me. I did well with my footwork, my footwork is great for my size. I was fluid at the Mississippi State camp.”
The display of skills and athleticism brought a Bulldog crowd to Washington.
“I talked to their running backs coach (Tony Hughes), a recruiting assistant, and their defensive coordinator (Matt Brock) talked to me; he recruits the area where our school is. He’s been up there a couple of times to talk to me.”
Washington continued, “They said I did well. They also said hopefully we will get you back up here during the season, and we will be in touch.”
A round of visits is in the works.
“I will probably go to Duke, Tulane, and Memphis in the fall,” Washington stated. “Right now, they are not doing officials. I plan to take an official to Duke and an unofficial to Tulane.”
The personal interest in the Blue Devils was shared, “I like their offense, they run a pro-style offense. Their running backs coach, coach Trooper Taylor, I like him.”
The rapport with Tulane running backs coach Derrick Sherman is helping get Washington to Louisiana.
“I like their running backs coach,” Washington shared. “He probably talks to me the most of any of the running back coaches. They run the ball in a pro-style offense, and they beat USC (46-45); that was nice to see.”
On the return visit to see the Tigers, Washington shared, “I like everything about Memphis, the city and the program. They are one of the schools I have seen. They are building new facilities, and their running backs coach (Sean Dawkins) is good. And they got very good running backs.”
Other visits to Appalachian State and East Carolina could pop up on the schedule for Washington.
