The Wildcats went into Nevada on Saturday pulling out linebacker/athlete Tony Fields adding the eighth verbal commitment to Arizona’s 2017 class.
Fields has been a big part of Desert Pines High School’s on the field success over the past two seasons. The Jaguars went 11-2 in 2014 and 8-3 in 2015. During Field’s junior season, the 6’2”, 205 pound, playmaker was one of the leaders on defense coming up with 93 total tackles, 77 solo, with seven tackles for a loss, three sacks, two interceptions, four fumble recoveries, and a forced fumble.
The commitment news went public when Fields posted his announcement on Twitter:
Arizona had heavy competition for Fields with BYU, Colorado State, Illinois, Boise State, Nevada, San Diego State, Missouri, UNLV, Hawaii, Washington State, and Oregon State, among others, all extending offers.
Recruiting efforts for the Wildcats have picked up dramatically in recent weeks. Six of their eight commitments have come since April 5 when Kylan Wilborn and Kurtis Brown pledged to the Wildcats.
