Ladies and gentlemen, Bentonville High School Class of 2016 cornerback Tyrone Mahone is back!
The recruiting world would have known about the 6’0”, 175 pound, cover-corner already had an unfortunate injury not happened on the Tigers way to a second consecutive Arkansas state championship last season. In the semifinals Mahone broke his ankle putting a stop to a slew of offers that seemed to be right around the corner.
Teams like Arkansas, Arkansas State, Kansas State, Memphis, Navy, Purdue, Nebraska, and Missouri have all shown various levels of interest with Eastern Illinois extending an offer. The now third-year starter has been consistent on the high school gridiron coming up with 42 tackles, four tackles for a loss, and two interceptions during his sophomore season and then on his way to first-team All-State honors as a junior he added another 41 tackles, a forced fumble, and two more picks to his resume.
College recruiters have held off on extending offers wanting to see if Mahone still has the 4.43 forty-yard dash speed he flashed during his junior year before his injury. Through three games this season Mahone is back and looking better than ever. He has 20 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, and 1 interception on the season and is even returning punts.
The talented senior has released his three-game highlight reel showing his cover skills, run support abilities, his lateral movement, ability to back pedal, and his game speed on a big 50-yard punt return.
