For now, one spot for the Arkansas Razorbacks 2017 recruiting class has more than likely been completely filled. Saturday night the Hogs landed their third verbal commit to the 2017 haul when Daulton Hyatt joined the group out of Alabama.
Hyatt announced his decision on Twitter posting, “I am officially committed to the University of Arkansas! Go Razorbacks! #WPS.” The courtship from offer to commitment did not take long for the Hogs and the Alabama native. Hyatt was offered on March 5 posting to Twitter, “Truly honored an thankful to receive my 16th offer and 3rd SEC offer from the University of Arkansas! #Razorbacks.”
Colleges got to see Hyatt’s potential during his sophomore year playing for Arab High School. The 6-3, 178 pound, pro-style quarterback passed for 2,200 yards with 17 scores against six picks but also ran for 688 yards with five more touchdowns. The Knights had a tough season in 2015 finishing 1-9 after posting a 7-4 win-loss total in 2014. Hyatt has transferred schools and will play for Etowah High School in 2016. The Blue Devils went 7-4 in 2015.
Hyatt picked Arkansas over 15 other offers from teams like Arkansas State, Illinois, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Syracuse, West Virginia, Troy, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Florida Atlantic, Louisville, Maryland, Missouri, Purdue, and Miami. Rivals ranks Hyatt as the No. 22 quarterback in the nation and the No. 20 overall prospect in the state of Alabama.
Under head coach Bret Bielema, Arkansas has traditionally only taken one quarterback in each recruiting class although the Hogs brought in two in 2015 with Ty Storey and USC transfer Ricky Towns. Teurlings Catholic (Louisiana) quarterback Cole Kelley was the lone signal caller taken in the Hogs 2016 recruiting class.
