What a big difference one year can make with a given team’s college football schedule. Over the last two seasons the Arkansas Razorbacks have endured schedules ranked among the toughest in the nation but get a slight reprieve in 2016 with four SEC home games.
The University of Arkansas athletic department is already hailing the schedule as the “best home schedule in Razorback history” seeing Alabama, Ole Miss, Florida, and LSU coming to Fayetteville. The best clearly does not mean the easiest with all four 2016 SEC games against teams currently ranked in the AP Top 25. From top to bottom, LSU is No. 4 (7-0), Alabama ranked No. 7 (7-1), Florida is currently ranked No. 11 (6-1), and Ole Miss is capable of climbing higher in the polls but is currently No. 19 (6-2).
The Hogs non-conference schedule, in theory, gets a little bit tougher and easier swapping UTEP, Toledo, and University of Tennessee-Martin for Louisiana Tech, Texas State, and Alcorn State and roll off Texas Tech for another Big 12 Conference member, TCU, the current No. 5 team in the nation.
Arkansas has not played TCU since 1991 when both teams were in the Southwest Conference. The Hogs own the all-time series having won 43 of 68 contests with two ties, or 43-23-2. The Hogs won the last meeting 22-21 in Arlington. The Razorbacks travel to Arlington in 2016 with the Horned Frogs returning the favor in Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium in 2017.
Two weeks after heading to Arlington, Arkansas will head back to the Dallas-Fort Worth area to face Texas A&M. The schedule lines up nicely with three consecutive home games, a road trip to Auburn, and then a bye week before hosting Florida and LSU. Arkansas closes the season out with road games against Mississippi State and Missouri. The Hogs lone Little Rock game is Oct. 1 against Alcorn State, the first meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.
Arkansas is currently 3-4, 2-2, with games against Tennessee-Martin, No. 19 Ole Miss, No. 4 LSU, No. 25 Mississippi State, and Missouri left on the schedule. The Hogs kickoff against UT-Martin on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. ET.
