From 36 offers down to three and then to one, Auburn won out in the recruiting battle for Jalyn Crawford on Saturday. The Parkview High School (Lilburn, Ga.) four-star verbally committed to the Tigers over the Florida Gators and LSU Tigers.
Inside Auburn’s facilities, Crawford shared about the positive vibes and the genuine nature among the coaches on the staff. Asked what separated the Tigers from the others, Crawford replied, “My relationship with the players and coaches. I have a good relationship with everybody. Playing time was also a factor. They all say I will play early, but Auburn feels I will be an alpha dog and take over for them.”
Crawford continued, “It was really the distance, the people, and coach (Hugh) Freeze. They make me feel like a priority, when I am down there. I have been talking to the players, I know a couple of the players, and they are telling me they need me; that was a big thing for me. I’ve been talking to all their coaches, chopping it up with them.”
The decision process was weighed out by Crawford and his family.
“I’d say about a week ago, my family and I put up our pros and cons, it came out to be Auburn,” Crawford stated. “How I went about it, first we talked about the place and where I want to live without NIL; without everything. We went to the old days making this decision, from the people to where I would be living.
“My dad had a kidney transplant a year ago, I wanted to be close to him so I could take care of him. It was a toss-up between all three schools. All three schools had what I was looking for.”
Crawford notified Auburn’s staff of the good news last week.
“Last week, I called coach Freeze; I asked him if he had time to talk,” Crawford said. “I told him, he was very excited. He said he wasn’t going to tell anyone until I put it out to the public. I called coach Crime Dog (Wesley McGriff – CB); he was excited. They all had big reactions to it.”
Crawford is the 11th commitment to Auburn’s 2024 recruiting class, ninth four-star.
