The Tigers may have landed their most important recruit in the 2017 class getting a verbal nod from former Baylor Bears quarterback Jarrett Stidham on Saturday.
Stidham is a ready to play college quarterback with a wealth of experience. The 6-3, 210 pound, gunslinger had a breakout season in 2015 with the Bears passing for 1,265 yards hitting 75-of-109 pass attempts with 12 touchdowns against two picks. He can also move within the pocket and extend drives with his legs. He had two rushing touchdowns in 2015 against Big 12 competition.
In 2015, Stidham took over the starting job for the Bears after Seth Russell suffered a neck injury. Stidham started 10 games for the Bears before suffering an injury of his own, an ankle injury against Oklahoma State. Baylor lost Stidham after former head coach Art Briles was dismissed before the 2016 season.
Auburn recruited Stidham out of McLennan Community College. Oddly enough, McLennan does not have a football program. The four-star recruit sat out the 2016 season. Out of high school, Stidham was considered the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback in the nation with offers from Clemson, Florida, Notre Dame, and Alabama. Stidham will have three years to play three.
The Tigers hosted Stidham on an official visit on Nov. 29.
247Sports rates Auburn’s class No. 9 in the nation, No. 5 overall in the SEC.
