Troubles at Baylor along the football roster continue with the announced parting of ways with Class of 2015 athlete J.W. Ketchum by head coach Art Briles.
Coach Briles has not indicated what happened leading up to Ketchum’s dismissal. In August, Ketchum was arrested on a marijuana possession charge. The freshman has been redshirted after practicing at safety but has not played for the Bears this season.
Per reports, Ketchum is still on scholarship and is allowed to workout at Baylor’s athletic facilities but is not participating in practices.
Ketchum was a 4-star recruit out of Lamar High School in the Houston area. He had offers from several top programs including Texas A&M, Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas, LSU, Cal, Auburn, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Northwestern. During his senior season he helped lead Lamar to a 10-2 record lining up under center as a primary running threat. He ran for 1,426 yards with 18 touchdowns but was far less successful passing the ball completing 31-of-89 passes for 588 yards with seven touchdowns against six picks.
There has been no indication on a potential landing spot for Ketchum yet.
Baylor has taken some public relations hits as of late over the Sam Ukwuachu sexual assault case and tight end Tre’Von Armstead being dismissed from the team after being selected a preseason All-Big 12 player.
