Get it done on Lone Star State high school football fields, it has been proven quarterbacks will be successful at the collegiate level. Out of Dallas’ Highland Park High School, Warren Peck is the next strong-armed QB ready to make his mark when he levels up.
Peck’s senior run will allow him to showcase the Saturday arm.
“We are not an Air Raid offense, but we do pass about 60 percent of the time,” Peck stated. “We split the field and run doubles.”
The 6-5, 215-pound, gunslinger has the abilities to run the pass-heavy attack.
“I’d say that I fit the scheme pretty perfectly; I can air it out,” Peck said. “I am accurate, and I can get yardage when we need it. When needed, I can tuck and run for yards.”
Picking up those extra yards when green grass is in front of him is part of his offseason focus.
“I have mostly been working on my speed,” Peck shared. “I’ve turned around my speed; I’ve dropped my 40 by .6 seconds. Throwing with my receivers always helps.”
Off the field, interest has been building.
“Louisiana Tech definitely, a ton of the Ivy Leagues like Yale and Harvard,” Peck said. “Stanford is showing interest, Stephen F. Austin – a bunch have reached out.”
SMU brought their spring game to Highland Park giving Peck an opportunity to converse with the Mustangs’ coaching staff.
“It was good,” Peck stated. “There were a lot of people there; they held it at my high school. It was cool.”
Peck continued, “I talked to their coaches a decent amount. I met their QB coach (Jonathan Brewer), their head coach (Rhett Lashlee), and their head recruiting coordinator (Tyler Foster).”
The summer months will provide opportunities for Peck to visit and camp with college programs across the country.
“I am going to Incarnate Word, Louisiana Tech (camps and visit), and probably Baylor (visit),” Peck said. “I am also going to Yale and Harvard for a camp and visit most likely.”
The style of offense and chance to bond with the Bulldogs’ staff has Peck wanting to hang in Ruston for a spell this summer.
“I really like their offense,” Peck shared. “They run an Air Raid offense. Their head coach (Sonny Cumbie) was a really good QB in college (Texas Tech), that is a trait about a coach I would like to have train me.”
The curriculum and prestige of Yale’s academics is a draw for Peck.
“I really like their academics,” Peck stated. “I think it is really important to keep in mind academics because football does not last forever. A degree from a prestigious school like Yale lasts forever.”
