Earthmovers with the size to play offensive tackle are one of the most valued positions on the gridiron. If you can get nasty in the run game and keep your quarterback’s jersey fresh and clean, there are scholarships awaiting. Hard to say a 6-6, 320-pound, young man is being overlooked, but out of Lely High School in Naples (Fla.) college programs are missing out on Woody Celucien.
As one might expect, because of Celucien’s size, he is accustomed to putting defenders on the mat. But in his opinion, Celucien can pass-pro with the best.
“The strengths of my game are the quickness of my feet, my IQ, and my hand-placement,” Celucien said. “The best part is my pass-pro and my kick step. My run block is very good, but I feel that my pass-pro is way better than my run blocking right now. When I pull, I don’t miss.”
Set to compete at the Under Armour camp in Miami on March 3, Celucien is getting ready to put the skills on display against the best in the area.
“This offseason I am working on getting faster and stronger, I want to be way better than I was last year,” Celucien stated. “I am grinding and working every day to get better and better.”
Asked what he wants to showcase at the UA camp, Celucien replied, “I want to showcase that I can be one of the top-rated players in the country; I know that I am.”
Celucien being one of the top players at his position in the country is supported by eight offers from Boston College, Eastern Kentucky, Florida Atlantic, Massachusetts, Toledo, Western Michigan, West Virginia, and…
“My most recent was Western Kentucky, that was on Tuesday,” Celucien shared. “That was out of nowhere. He texted me in all caps that he wanted to talk to me over the phone, and that he liked my film. Before he said, ‘this is my number, I will call you during the week’. We texted, then he called me out of nowhere telling me you have an offer to Western Kentucky.”
Expect more offers to come to the Class of 2025 prospect this spring.
“The schools reaching out the most that have not offered are Syracuse, Duke, Georgia, USF (South Florida), and Louisville, those are the main five,” Celucien stated.
Sunshine State programs got the big man on campus for games over the fall months.
“I went to Miami, USF, FAU (Florida Atlantic) two or three times, and FIU (Florida International) once,” Celucien said. “I stayed in my area here in Florida.”
The Hurricanes welcomed Celucien for an ACC showdown in Hard Rock.
“The visit was really good,” Celucien shared. “It was The Night Out verses Georgia Tech; that was an intense game. That was a shocker in the last couple of seconds. The crowd was wild, and the atmosphere was crazy.”
Up in Tampa, the Bulls impressed with their style of play.
“It was really packed,” Celucien shared. “The game was fast paced.”
This spring, Celucien is getting to see programs outside of the state.
“I am going to visit FAU, Louisville, Georgia, and Georgia Tech, and any other schools that come my way,” Celucien stated.
Asked why he’s pumped to hang with the Cardinals, Celucien replied, “They were the first school to recruit me but have not offered. Since my freshman year, they have been recruiting me. They have been talking to me and inviting me to games, now I have the chance to go up there.”
While in Georgia to see the Bulldogs and Yellow Jackets, Celucien will be competing in a five-on-five tournament.
