TAMPA, Fla. – When Gaither (Tampa, Fla.) turned to the passing attack during the 2022 season, the Cowboys had options. One of the rising talents on the squad who shined bright hauling in passes was Latrell Taylor. The 6-2, 185-pound, target secured 39 passes for 667 yards making seven trips into the end zone. Six teams have found the 2024 prospect with an official in the works with Florida Atlantic.
UCF, South Florida, Florida, and Georgetown were among the teams to work one-on-one with Taylor this summer. The display of athleticism and talent could earn a scholarship opportunity this fall out of Gainesville.
“My best camp was probably Florida,” Taylor said. “At Florida I did better. That was one of the last camps I went to, I feel that I did better there.”
Gators’ receivers coach Billy Gonzales provided Taylor with extra motivation when the 2023 schedule kicks off.
“Their receivers coach told me that my footwork had gotten better since the last time I camped with them,” Taylor stated. “He said he was looking at my film, and liked what I did last year. He said if I can keep improving that he would offer me; that’s what he said.”
The offer sheet already includes Florida Atlantic, New Hampshire, Western Kentucky, Tennessee-Martin, Rhode Island, and Bowling Green. The Owls are after the in-state playmaker.
“They are reaching out; I like them a lot,” Taylor shared. “They are contacting me every other day making sure that I am working out. I send them videos of what I am doing. We did 7-on-7 last month and in July, I was showing them my talent; they liked it a lot.”
Taylor continued, “Their receivers coach, coach (David) Beaty, he came down to Gaither and saw me working out with my other teammate Drew; he offered me on the spot. I am trying to take an official there sometime in the next few weeks. I have to contact their coaches.”
While in Boca Raton, Taylor spoke about the things that could influence his recruiting process with the Owls.
“I want to see the environment around the school, I want to see how the coaches are, and I want to see who would be my teammates,” Taylor said. “I just want to make sure everything is good, and the academics; those are the things that I worry about.”
