Chris Cooper has put together back-to-back big seasons for Beaumont High School drawing attention to the Cougars’ program. The 2024 gunslinger broke onto the scene during his sophomore season covering 3,610 yards in the air with 35 touchdowns tossed adding nine scores on the big board. Piecing his junior season to the overall picture, college squads are tracking his progress into spring ball.
Open period visits have taken Cooper to Hawaii, UNLV, and UC-Davis. The time in paradise with the Rainbow Warriors was discussed.
“It was fun,” Cooper said. “Coach Timmy Chang and his staff, they showed me everything. They showed a lot of love for me and my family. They were breaking down everything including how the QB room looks. They have a few guys that are there now; that’s the only reason they have not pulled the trigger. They love my film. I am one of the first guys on their board.”
Cooper continued, “It is the same thing with Utah Tech. They love my film, but they haven’t offered a QB in the 2024 class. I will be the first.”
The trip to Las Vegas with the Rebels was productive.
“It was great,” Cooper shared. “I went up there and connected with coach (Robbie) Bell (GA) right away. When I was walking around, I didn’t know the coaches, but they knew my name. They told me to keep it up. If I do well, I think I will have a spot there. The hospitality there was great.”
The next round of visits is being planned for this summer to coincide with visits.
“The schools I have been to, they want to see me at their camps,” Cooper said. “After the camp, that will turn into a visit. I’m planning on going to Hawaii, Southern Utah, Utah Tech, and the UC-Davis QB camps.”
Before Cooper heads back out, many of the same teams and more will be heading to Beaumont to see Cooper in action.
“We have a showcase coming up,” Cooper shared. “There is supposed to be 27 coaches there. Iowa will be there. I know Southern Utah and Utah Tech will be there. I hope Hawaii will be there.”
Preparing for the opportunities to impress with scouts watching, Cooper spoke about his offseason workouts.
“I am primarily working on getting faster,” Cooper said. “I have seen strides in getting faster; that will help my team next season with the running game which will help open up the pass to be more balanced. With my skills, I am working on my accuracy, overall passing, my release, arm strength, and having a faster release time. I am checking all the boxes. I am not weak on anything, but I can always improve.”
