Big Texas 4-Star WR Tyrell Shavers Rolls with the Tide

SEC fans had to cringe a little bit more than usual on Monday after finding out Texas four-star wide receiver Tyrell Shavers had verbally committed to Alabama.

Shavers to Bama is another case of the rich getting much richer. Shavers has been an offensive weapon for Lewisville High School earning 6A first team All-District honors at the end of his junior year. The stats on Shavers are incomplete, but he is big, listed at 6’6”, 202 pounds, and he is fast, routinely getting behind the secondary for big plays. Shavers can be more than a possession receiver for Alabama at the next level.

College coaches love Shavers size, athleticism, and play making abilities. At the time he committed to Alabama, Shavers was in the neighborhood of 30 offers. In mid-May, the 30 offers were narrowed down to a Top 10 of LSU, Oregon, Auburn, Florida State, Alabama, Mississippi State, Texas, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, and Miami.

Shavers visited Tuscaloosa over the weekend leading to his commitment. The decision went nationwide via Twitter with Shavers posting “Roll Tide” followed by a statement:

Alabama now has 14 verbal commitments to their 2017 class. Shavers is the only wide receiver currently committed.
