The freight train that is Bishop Gorman kept its consecutive national title hopes alive streaking forward on Friday night upending Long Beach Poly 52-13.

The one-two punch of quarterback Tate Martell (Texas A&M) and running back Biaggio Ali-Walsh was too much for Poly. Martell put the Gaels on the board first connecting with tight end Brevin Jordan on an 11-yard touchdown going up 7-0. The Gaels got into field position for a field goal off an interception going up 10-0.

Poly responded putting Florida State commit Malik Henry in the game, his first action since transferring back to California from IMG Academy (Florida). Henry’s first pass of the game and of the season was a 64-yard connection with Jack Jones for a touchdown.

The 10-7 score would be as close as the game would get with Ali-Walsh taking over in the second quarter. The junior rushed for a 7-yard touchdown then broke off a 72-yard run setting up a Martell 1-yard touchdown plunge. A lesson was learned for Ali-Walsh not to take a touchdown run for granted until crossing the goal line. His 72-yard run could have been a 73-yard touchdown but he slowed down inside the 10 yard line and was tackled at the 1 yard line.

Ali-Walsh still had an impressive game picking up a career-high 211 yards on the ground with three scores.

Poly’s second score of the game was a 46-yard bomb from Henry to Jones.

Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) is now 4-0 on the season with another California team on the schedule next week, Servite. Long Beach Poly drops to 2-1 on the year with Woodrow Wilson on the docket next week.
