BRADENTON, Fla. – Earning first team MaxPreps All-American honors as a sophomore, college teams have wasted little time handing over offers to Seuseu “SJ” Alofaituli (6-3, 295). The four-star interior offensive lineman for Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) has 20 scholarships to choose from with high-profile Power Five teams hoping to get his verbal commitment as soon as possible. Oklahoma and Georgia brought Alofaituli to campus this offseason with four other teams likely to get their chance in the coming months.
Back in Nevada, Alofaituli and the Gaels have big aspirations for the 2023 season.
“There are a lot of things I have been working on,” Alofaituli said. “As a team, we are working on keeping our team bond tight. I was chosen as a team captain, which is a blessing especially as an underclassman. We’ve been grinding in the weight room, doing conditioning, and going over our plays so we are on the same page. We are going for a natty this year, that is the goal.”
On the recruiting trail, stops at Oklahoma and Georgia brought tempting commitment opportunities.
“I love Georgia,” Alofaituli shared. “Georgia has something special going on over there. I really enjoyed it. They tried to make me commit right there; they were pushing me. They had signs saying ‘gotta do it’.
“Oklahoma was cool too. They are really trying to rebuild that program and get it back as a winning program. They really need the guys. They were trying to force that commitment too. It was a blessing. Definitely a blessing.”
With storied programs like OU and UGA wanting him to commit, the four-star guard was asked how hard it was holding off on committing to either coaching staff.
“It was definitely – I was really wanting to,” Alofaituli stated. “My mom was over there, she was like, I like this school and I like this school, but I think I like this school better. It is definitely something my parents and I have to sit down and talk about schools covering what I want to study and how I fit in to a program.”
There may be four more chances for coaching staffs to make their pitches to commit on the spot upcoming.
“I have a lot of visits – probably Miami, Alabama, Tennessee, and USC,” Alofaituli said. “The visits will probably be this summer and during the season.”
Asked when he may visit the Hurricanes, Alofaituli replied, “Yeah, I think we are going to Miami this summer.”
The Hurricanes success on the recruiting trail has Alofaituli’s attention.
“Man, they have a lot of good players over there,” Alofaituli stated. “They have a lot of good commits going there. My guy (TE) Elija Lofton from Bishop Gorman, he just committed over there. He was telling me about Miami. I asked him why did you go over there, he said there is something special going on over there. I don’t doubt it because there are a lot of good linemen over there. I am definitely excited to go there.”
Family ties are helping the 2025 prospect head to Tuscaloosa.
“My cousin Tua Tagovailoa, right when I got offered by them, his parents called me and said, ‘I need you to come over here and visit right now’,” Alofaituli shared. “Tua’s parents are really trying to get me over there to visit the program. I really think they are special; every kid’s dream is to get offered by Alabama. I am definitely blessed, and I look forward to going there to see what it is about.”
With college teams doing their best to land one of the nation’s top ’25 interior linemen, Alofaituli was asked when he may make his announcement.
“I will probably commit before my senior year,” Alofaituli stated.
