Boise State Reaches into So Cal for 2017 Mater Dei SS Roman Kafentzis

Boise State is starting to heat up the recruiting trail getting their third commitment in the month of December on Tuesday when southern California strong safety Roman Kafentzis committed to the Broncos.

The three-star rated safety helped lead Mater Dei High School to a 13-1 mark in 2016. The Monarchs ended their year ranked No. 4 in the nation, No. 2 in California (MaxPreps), playing in one of the toughest high school conferences in the nation, the Trinity League. In stats through 13 games posted, Kafentzis had 49 tackles, 10.5 tackles for a loss, two sacks, seven pass deflections, two fumble recoveries, and one interception.

Kafentzis (6-3, 210) has the athletic ability to be a fierce strong safety at the next level or a very active outside linebacker capable of covering the slot against spread offenses.

Boise State won Kafentzis’ commitment over offers from San Jose State, Air Force, Fresno State, Nevada, New Mexico, Brown, Army, and Colorado State among others.

Rivals ranks the Broncos 2017 class No. 70 in the nation while 247Sports has the group at No. 63, tops in the Mountain West Conference. BSU pushed their class back to 15 commits with Kafentzis after Idaho three-star defensive end Aisa Kelemete flipped to Washington State on Monday. The Broncos have also added Bryan Thompson, a four-star, and Rathen Ricedorff this month.
