Varsity snaps as a sophomore with the Wildcats has led to a breakout junior campaign for TaRyan Young. Filling the outside linebacker/weakside defensive end role, Young (6-0, 215) has made his presence felt against 7A Georgia teams this season. The action on the field is bringing a recruiting spotlight to the rising Camden County (Kingsland) talent.
Young updated the Wildcats’ success on the field thus far.
“It is going well,” Young said. “We are 5-1. We have a Region game coming up on Friday against Richmond Hill (4-2). They are good, but we expect to beat them. That is the goal.”
Action in Camden County’s defensive scheme as one of the leaders on the team was covered.
“We have three down linemen, two outside linebackers, two inside linebackers, and four in the secondary,” Young stated. “I read the offensive tackle. If he faces out, I go in. If he down blocks, I squeeze. They have me blitz a lot, about 80 to 90 percent of the game I blitz. My high motor does me well.”
Asked what he’s been able to showcase this season for college scouts, Young replied, “My speed. My speed has gotten better. I’m showcasing my high motor, my tackling, and my speed running to the ball.”
Big D-I interest is brewing for the 2025 prospect.
“Wake Forest and Troy are showing interest,” Young said. “Wake Forest is showing lot of interest. I am going up there on Oct. 28 for the Florida State game.”
Young previewed the upcoming visit to Winston-Salem.
“I am really excited,” Young stated. “I heard it is really good there with their college football atmosphere. They are playing a tough team; I think Florida State is No. 3 in the country. It will be a good game.”
Details were given to the growing connection with the Demon Deacons staff.
“I’ve been talking to coach Glenn Spencer, their linebackers coach,” Young shared. “Our relationship is good, especially since they can talk to the ‘25s. Since Aug. 1, we’ve been chatting a little bit. I am excited to meet him in person for the first time.”
Young’s rise on the gridiron is bringing a spike in game-day invites.
“I went to Charlotte vs. Florida game (Sept. 23) and my brother (CB Tyre Young) attends Troy, I went there for a game when they played Stephen F. Austin (Sept. 2),” Young shared. “I am going on a couple more; I am excited about that.”
The time in Gainesville was fun for Young.
“It was great,” Young stated. “The atmosphere there is great. The thing they do in the fourth quarter with the Tom Petty song “I Won’t Back Down”, that is one of the best things in college football honestly.”
The family ties to Trojans gives Young a strong connection to Troy.
“It was great,” Young said. “I talked to coach Bam (Hardmon), their outside linebackers. He is a cool guy and funny. The game was a good one, even thought it was hot. They came out with high energy. I got to see my brother play; it was good.
Young added, “I could see myself playing at Troy. The campus is nice, and I like what they got going on over there.”
