As breakout seasons go, few could have scripted one for Sabby Meassick to go so well. The freshman guided Tohopekaliga High School (Kissimmee) to a 6-4 record against 4S Florida defenses tossing for 3,000-plus yards with 38 touchdowns. Adding to the stats, four of Meassick’s receivers hauled in 44 or more passes. The skills and productivity have brought two offers with a dozen-plus opportunities lining up this summer to add to the list.
Toho’s offense is tailor fit for Meassick, “We run the Air Raid, or close to an Air Raid. We do have running formations, but mostly we are an Air Raid offense. We pretty much throw on every play.”
Working with quarterback coach Chris Leak, Meassick is ready to surpass last season’s high stat totals.
“This off-season I have been working on not leaning back when I throw, that was a big problem last year, and getting my elbow up more,” Meassick stated. “I am working on my mechanics and keeping level when I throw.”
Offers have been handed over by Florida and Marshall. Staying local, early inroads were made with the Knights’ coaching staff in Orlando.
“UCF was great,” Meassick said. ” Their QB coach, coach (Darin) Hinshaw, really likes me. He had me go everywhere he went. We toured the facilities, and they talked to us and explained to us what was going on while we were there. Overall, it was a great experience.”
Asked what college coaches are telling him they like about his game, Meassick replied, “They tell me they like my arm strength, accuracy, they like how I throw fast and have a quick release, and my decision making.”
An impressive, and busy, college camp tour is being put together by Meassick.
“I’ll be visiting Wake Forest and camping there, and I am going to Coastal Carolina, Duke, Florida, NC State, Florida State, Texas A&M, UCF, Houston, FAU, East Carolina, Ohio State, Penn State, and Notre Dame,” Meassick stated.
Asked what he wants to showcase at the summer camps in front of the college coaches, Meassick said, “My decision making, how I compete, and being a leader.”
