For underclassmen across the country, the thoughts every night as drifting off to sleep is about the season ahead. No matter the position played, the dreams are the same – showcase the skills and get offers on the table. At Ravenwood High School (Brentwood, TN), Gavin Macias was behind three team-leading senior receivers during the 2024 season. But when the 2025 schedule kicks off, Macias (5-9, 155) will get his chance to shine.

The foundation was laid during the fall months with the Raptors.

“We were a quick offense,” Macias said. “We ran the ball a lot; we had great running backs. Our offense was a Spread, but when we got down into the red zone, we were more pro-style. We were up tempo; get to the line and go.

“I ran a lot of goes to clear the defense, a lot of under routes, and pick routes.”

Macias added, “I learned a lot. I got to face a lot of good DBs which helped me improve my game. My footwork improved a lot.”

The dreams of dominating on the field are nothing more than a thought if not backed by hard work. Macias is punching the offseason workout clock.

“This offseason I am working on getting bigger, faster, and twitchier,” Macias stated. “I am working with DBs to work on getting open.”

Part of the grind this winter and spring is running with DGA in 7-on-7 tournaments.

“It helps a lot,” Macias shared. “I get a lot of conditioning in, and I am getting faster and stronger. I get to go make plays every weekend.”

With DGA, Macias and company got to visit South Florida while in town over the weekend for the Tampa Pylon tournament.

“It was great,” Macias said. “It was fun to go see their facilities. I got to see how life may be in college. I learned a lot about health and how that contributes to playing in college. I also learned a lot about academics and how that can make or break your game in college. It helped me a lot to hear that for the future to plan things out to get to that level.”

The Raptors were 13-1 last fall and have three-star 2026 QB Femi Babalola returning to help Ravenwood back to the 6A playoffs. Macias and Babalola are spending extra time together developing their chemistry in 7-on-7 tournaments with DGA; watch for that connection in the upcoming season.
