It is not easy having to wait one’s turn, but that is what Jarrin Alley (6-2, 195) had to do during his junior year with Bloomington South High School (Ind.). Control of the Panthers’ offense was given to senior Luke David helping guide the squad to a 9-2 record. When the lights come on this fall for Bloomington South, Alley will have his opportunity to fully showcase what he can do on the field.
The Panthers’ offense is designed to allow Alley to have a showcase senior campaign.
“We are all out of shotgun running inside and outside zone,” Alley said. “We spread our receivers out running a RPO (run-pass option) out of it. The offense gives receivers shots downfield to make plays.”
Fine tuning his craft, Alley spoke about his offseason workouts, “I have done a lot with making sure my base is consistent and my footwork is good. I work with our offensive coordinator during school going over the offense and scouting other teams we will play this season.”
Off the field, on May 4, Valparaiso extended Alley’s first offer.
“I went to their Junior Day, coach (Matthew) Symmes, their offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach, he told me he likes my film a lot. He also told me he wants to see me throw. We had a spring workout that he attended. Afterwards he had me call him, then he told me he wanted me to come play for him.”
More teams are scouting Alley.
“Butler, Dayton, and Indiana State have reached out about coming to a camp,” Alley stated. “Some Ivy League schools, like Harvard and Columbia, they want to see me throw in person too.”
Alley’s QB coach, Anthony Morelli, helped him get in front of Power Five decision makers this spring.
“I’ve been to Valparaiso and Indiana State,” Alley said. “I work out with X-Factor, with coach Morelli. He took some of his QBs to IU (Indiana) and Purdue for practices. I’ve also been to Eastern Kentucky and Penn.”
Additional college scouts will get to see Alley in action this summer.
“I’m going to some mega camps, IU has one; I will be there,” Alley stated. “Miami-Ohio and Eastern Kentucky has one, and Indiana State too. There are a lot of the schools that have reached out that will be at those camps. I get to kill two birds with one stone so to speak.”
