Port Charlotte has a two-headed ground attack that is tough to slow down. The Pirates have senior tailback Edd Guerrier, a Scarlet Knights commit, and rising 2025 talent Ifeanyi “Ike” Perry. Whichever tailback gets the rock, there is no let down. Perry, like Guerrier, is a D-I caliber talent but is waiting to be discovered in the Sunshine State.

The Pirates are 7-2 on the season spurred offensively by a ground game that has produced over 2,000 yards. Perry is second on the team in carries (67) and yards (622) but is leading his squad in rushing scores (12). In addition to his impressive 9.3 yards per carry, the speed has been a game changer taking two punts back to the house.

“The season is going well,” Perry stated. “I really think we shouldn’t have lost those two games; we played our hearts out. The offense is playing fast, the defense is shutting out teams, and the special teams are doing their part. We have to get better each week.”

Perry’s role in the offense was detailed.

“We run out of the gun,” Perry said. “We use tempo to beat our teams; we get the ball out quick. I’m versatile with my running. With my speed, I’m doing outside runs, swing passes, going up the middle, I have a little bit of power, and doing screen plays to get out in the open making people miss. I am using my vision to find the holes.”

Putting that 4.5 speed to use, Perry was asked about the strengths to his game.

“I make great cuts and I have speed to the outside,” Perry shared. “I am making guys miss, not everyone can catch me, and I am making good football decisions. In our offense, I am playing with tempo, my conditioning, and I am playing fast.”

In a win over Gulf Coast, Perry had one of his better games of the 2023 season.

“I can say the Gulf Coast game was my best,” Perry said. “We had an injury with our starting running back. The pressure was on me, and I lived up to it. I think I had two or three touchdowns in that game. I showed everyone I can be the starting running back.”

*Perry toted the rock 11 times for 132 yards with three touchdowns against Gulf Coast.
