Charlotte went toe-to-toe with some powerhouse ACC schools on the recruiting trail landing perhaps their most prized player in the 2017 class thus far when offensive lineman D’mitri Emmanuel committed to the 49ers on Wednesday.
Emmanuel has been the ignition switch for Marvin Ridge High School up front knocking back North Carolina 3A competition. The Mavericks posted an 8-4 mark in 2015 with their 6-3, 300 pound, guard blowing open holes for a run game that produced over 1,600 yards on the ground and kept fellow Class of 2017 recruit Austin Colonna upright in a standout season where he passed for over 3,000 yards with 24 touchdowns tossed.
Colleges along the East Coast are well aware of Emmanuel with offers coming in from Syracuse, Wake Forest, Old Dominion, Appalachian State, and Boston College. The decision seemingly came down to East Carolina, after a Sept. 3 visit, North Carolina, after several visits to Chapel Hill, and Charlotte.
Emmanuel ended his recruiting process with a post on Twitter reading, “Proud to announce that I’ve committed to University of North Carolina at Charlotte. #GoNiners.”
The 49ers now have 13 verbal commitments to their 2017 class with an early heavy lean on offense. Eight of the pledges are expected to help score the ball for Charlotte once on campus.
