You know it when you see it, and when you see River Warren slinging the ball around the yard, there is magic to his game. Warren does what quarterbacks are supposed to do but does it on a level above the classification. College teams got a chance to see the 2024 dual threat get after Oklahoma teams last fall with Bishop McGuinness (Oklahoma City) and will get to see the same excitement he brings to the field this fall with Del City High School.
Because Warren brings so many aspects to the pocket, he was asked about the strengths of his overall game, “My strengths are my passing, I feel like I have a good understanding of timing and windows. I think knowledge of the game helps. I am a big film watcher; that helps me going into games. Another strength is my ability to scramble and make plays with my feet. My feet help me open windows for passing. If I have to make plays with my feet I can.”
Holding seven offers, Warren was asked what next level scouts may be missing in what he can do with an offense.
“I’d say something you can’t measure is leadership and the mental aspect,” Warren shared. “I excel at the X’s and O’s. I started as a sophomore, and that helped me learn how to lead a group of older guys.”
Standing tall in the pocket at 6-3, 192 pounds, Warren’s goal is to add more mass to his frame this summer.
“I am working on getting bigger and stronger, my overall mechanics, having a quicker release and getting faster, and trying to improve my all-around game,” stated.
Outside of working with his new coaches at Del City, Warren is getting extra coaching from national QB coach Danny Hernandez.
“With coach Danny Hernandez, we work a lot on off-platform throws and game like movements. He is very good at mentorship outside of football. He is letting me know how to address different receivers. He is helping me become a better leader.”
While with the Fighting Irish this spring, college programs stopped by to see Warren.
“I had Iowa State, Tulsa, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, and West Virginia, just to name a few,” Warren said.
The seven scholarship opportunities could be joined with new offers in the coming weeks.
“West Virginia, Oklahoma State, Houston, Northwestern, and Missouri are showing interest,” Warren shared.
Spring visits were taken to Northwestern, West Virginia, Syracuse, and Illinois. The time spent with the Mountaineers was detailed.
“It went really well,” Warren stated. “Their facilities were really nice, and I loved the overall town for Morgantown. The coaches were great too. We sat down for about an hour with their academic staff, I had a one-on-one time with coach Neal Brown and coach Sean Reagan (QB).”
The time with the Wildcats in Evanston did not disappoint.
“That was really good,” Warren said. “Their facilities are amazing. The campus is right on the water, it is really beautiful. It was good to spend time with coach (Mike) Bajakian (OC/QB) one-on-one. It was a good visit.”
The college camp circuit has already begun for the Class of 2024 prospect spinning it at West Virginia on May 31, at SMU’s mega camp June 1, Houston’s mega camp June 2, and TCU’s mega camp on June 4.
Warren spoke about his latest outing with the Horned Frogs, “I thought I had a good mindset going in, the ball was coming out with consistent pop. I was putting it where I wanted to put it every time.”
The outings are stirring up more interest in Warren.
“Memphis, North Texas, Kansas, Arkansas State, Sam Houston, Oklahoma State wasn’t there but they reached out to me because of the camps, Indiana, Rice, and Wyoming talked to me at the camps,” Warren shared.
More camps are on the summer calendar.
“I am going out to FSU on June 11, I might go to Northwestern’s mega camp on June 17, and Oklahoma State reached out, I might go to their camp on the 14,” Warren said.
Asked what is important to you at this stage of your recruiting process, Warren replied, “Finding a team that really wants me and believes in me and wants me to be their guy.”
Arkansas State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Florida Atlantic, Marshall, Old Dominion, and Toledo are the offering teams for the three-star talent thus far.
