LILBURN, Ga. – As the saying goes, the tape doesn’t lie. Out of Georgia’s Parkview High School, the Panthers have one of the most prolific tailbacks in the nation. The rare mix of true speed and real power, Khyair Spain dusted 7A defenses for 2,383 yards on the ground last season. After continuing to showcase his skills this spring, next level scouts are finally giving the three-star Class of 2024 prospect his due.
Spain put in the work to rack up the yards carrying the rock 273 times with 16 trips into the end zone helping his Lilburn area squad to an 8-4 campaign. On passing downs, Spain added 11 receptions to his resume giving the Panthers more options on attacking defenses.
“It is great,” Spain said. “I love the atmosphere – everything is just great. Our coaches look out to get the best for us. Overall, I just like it.”
Comparisons to Spain’s game include Maurice Jones-Drew. Spain has a couple other NFL talents he’d add to that list.
“Maybe Clyde Edwards-Helaire or Nick Chubbs, guys like that,” Spain stated.
The want to lower the shoulder for extra yards is something Spain relishes.
“I like to hit people, other than linebacker, this is my next best position,” Spain shared.
Taking over for current Virginia running back Cody Brown, Spain’s progress on the field since his freshman year has him with reach of all-time Georgia greatness.
“If I get 2,700 yards, I will be top 10 all-time in Georgia, that is my goal,” Spain said.
To make the dream a reality, Spain has a gameplan.
“I will put in the work during the offseason and throughout the summer, no off days, and don’t play yourself out,” Spain stated. “This offseason I am working on my later movement, my conditioning, I’m getting in the weight room, and I am working on my stop and go.”
The offers for Spain are in the double-digits with scholarship opportunities dropped from teams like Kentucky, Memphis, Troy, UAB, Charlotte, East Carolina, and Indiana.
“Everything is going well,” Spain shared. “Coach is helping me get offers and helping get my name out there. Everything is going well.”
Spain continued, “Indiana is looking at me, Memphis, Kentucky, Akron, hopefully Minnesota will look at me soon.”
