Versatility in the trenches is not bragged upon as much as with skill players, so when it happens a brighter spotlight should be shinned upon it. Over at Mainland High School (Daytona, Fla.), Christian Hudson is the epitome of versatility along the line of scrimmage getting after it at guard and defensive tackle. The 2025 prospect got his start as a freshman on offense, and is now getting recruiting attention at both spots, but Hudson does have a preference.
Seven offers handed over to Hudson have been reported with Penn State, Western Kentucky, Charlotte, and Iowa State in that mix. Interest has been coming in from Middle Tennessee, Kentucky, Western Michigan, and Pitt. The Cyclones hosted on April 21.
“It was great,” Hudson said. “I met their coaching staff. I clicked with coach (Eli) Rasheed, their defensive line coach. He’s a really good guy. The only thing that stopped me was the cold. It was like 30 degrees there.”
In mid-April, the Nittany Lions welcomed Hudson to Happy Valley.
“I think their program is great,” Hudson stated. “The atmosphere is crazy, even just sitting in the stands. The fan support was great. The stadium was almost packed.”
While in Pennsylvania, Pitt hosted Hudson.
“Their facilities are connected with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and their new weight room was impressive,” Hudson said. “They are building a new weight room, and they have a hot and cold tub.”
Turning towards in-state schools, Hudson made stops at UCF, Florida, and Florida State detailing all three.
UCF: “The visit was great. I got a good connection with coach (Herb) Hand, their offensive line coach. He is a great guy overall. He showed a lot of love. I sat in the o-line meeting with them at 6:00 morning.”
Florida: “It was great. I talked to coach Rob Sale (OC), their defensive line coach, coach (Sean) Spencer (DL), and their assistant defensive line coach. He was so happy I started playing on the defensive line. My freshman year I was only playing offense; he loves that I am playing both ways.”
Florida State: “Florida State was a good visit. I was there for a Junior Day. I sat down with coach Odell Haggins, their defensive line coach. It was good visit.”
Hudson listed the teams expected to make it by his Daytona campus for spring ball, “Penn State, Pittsburgh, and UCF, that’s all I know about right now.”
A college camp circuit is being put together for Hudson. Between spring ball and the college camps, Hudson shared what he wants to showcase for the coaches.
“I want to show them that I am a dog,” Hudson said.
Preparing for the one-on-ones, Hudson has been in the weight room.
“My bench max is 300, I got 455 on squat, and I hit 295 today on power clean,” Hudson stated.
Asked which position he prefers playing, Hudson was quick to reply, “Defensive tackle. I like hitting people.”
