The DeSoto High School to Boulder pipeline was firmly established on Tuesday when a third Eagles player committed to Colorado. The Buffaloes got a good one too in speedy receiver KD Nixon.

Nixon started jumping on recruiting radars during his junior season ending the year as the Eagles’ second leading receiver in receptions (26) and yards (406) but tops in touchdowns with four. Nixon spent time on defense coming up with six tackles in nine games breaking up a couple of passes but showed out once again on special teams. Opposing Texas squads unwisely kicked Nixon’s way giving him six attempts that resulted in 205 yards with a 96-yard touchdown return on the stat sheet.

DeSoto has started the 2016 season 7-0 cleaning up against 6A Texas competition. The 5-8, 182 pound, talent has 12 carries for 139 yards with two scores and 18 receptions for another 443 yards with four more touchdowns. Nixon is once again making teams pay for kicking his way taking four kickoff returns back for 172 yards with a long of 94. He also has 56 punt return yards on seven attempts.

The four-star athlete was a one-time commitment to Tennessee joining the Volunteers 2017 class on April 16 but decommitted by June 26. Colorado hosted Nixon on Oct. 14 securing his commitment four days later. Other teams offering Nixon includes Arizona State, Kansas, Louisville, Duke, Houston, Indiana, Missouri, Iowa State, Utah, UTSA, Oregon State, SMU, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma State.

Nixon posted his commitment statement on Twitter:

Colorado now has 20 verbal commitments to their 2017 recruiting class with a heavy Texas lean. Eight recruits are included in the class with three coming from DeSoto. Nixon joins offensive lineman Xavier Newman, who committed two days ago, and wide receiver Laviska Shenault, a pledge since late April.

Rivals ranks Colorado’s class No. 19 in the nation while 247Sports has the Buffaloes at No. 29, fourth best in the Pac-12.
