All eyes are on bringing home a trophy for Miami’s Palmetto High School but come the weekends this fall Tomauri Johnson will be seeking out his next level fit. Holding 19 offers with interest still coming in, the three-star safety for the Tigers is ready to set four official visits.
The senior ballhawk updated which teams are hitting up his phone.
“Georgia Southern, Campbell, Western Kentucky and Toledo are talking to me a lot,” Johnson said. “Here and there FSU and Northern Illinois reaches out.”
A summer visit to Tampa almost resulted in a verbal commitment for Johnson.
“It went well,” Johnson shared. “I’m not going to lie, I was thinking about committing but I decided to wait.”
Johnson continued covering what he likes about the Bulls’ program, “Their new head coach (Alex Golesh) and their DB coach, coach (James) Rowe. I like how they operate their DB room. You can feel the energy and the change in the program. They were telling me about the new on campus stadium, that sounds fun. The energy on the campus is great, they are located in a good place in Florida, not far from home. USF is in a good area, and in the city.”
Interest coming in from Nebraska, Bryant, Campbell, Georgia Southern, and Charlotte, four teams could officially host Johnson in the coming months.
“Western Kentucky, Toledo, USF, and East Carolina,” Johnson stated.
Johnson shared his interest in all four programs.
Western Kentucky: “We have a good relationship. Coach (Da’Von) Brown (DB) texts me a lot, asking how I am doing. On our calls, we don’t always talk about football. It is a really good relationship to be honest.”
Toledo: “Coach (Jason) Candle, we talk a lot. He came down twice to see me. He will come back this fall to catch a couple of games.”
South Florida: “Coach (Eric) Kinsey, their d-line coach, we have a strong relationship. He knows coach Thompson, that made our relationship stronger because he knows one of my coaches. He reaches out asking about how my family is doing.”
East Carolina: “Coach (Tripp) Weaver (DB), I like what he is doing and how he is changing the DB room. They got the guy from Dillard in 2023 (CB Antione Jackson), he was a four-star, that was a nice pick up. They are trying to change the program; I think I would be a good fit.”
Mixed in with the officials, Johnson may stay local for a game-day this fall.
“I may take an unofficial to FIU,” Johnson said. “Coach (DeMarcus) Van Dyke (CB) and I have talked a lot. I plan on going there to check out a game with some of my teammates from Palmetto.”
