Isaiah French got valuable varsity snaps with St. Johns College (Washington D.C.) last fall and is now ready to forge his own path forward this season as the leader for the Cadets. Poised for that breakout opportunity, French (6-2, 200) will get to showcase his skills in the season opener on the road against Florida powerhouse American Heritage with college scouts watching.
Gearing up for his junior season, French went on the road getting extra tutelage from college coaches.
“I camped at ODU (Old Dominion), UVA (Virginia), and Wake Forest,” French stated. “I also competed at the Under Armour and Rivals’ camps.”
The offseason preparations will help French guide the Cadets in their pass-heavy attack.
“We are running a West Coast offense; we throw a lot,” French shared. “Corners, posts, outs, hitches, slants, post-curls, flats, our receivers pretty much run everything.”
From the end of his sophomore campaign through preseason practices, French has been working on the small details of his game.
“I have been cleaning up the little things from last season,” French said. “I’ve been cleaning up my footwork, working on my hips, my feet, and being able to rotate standing.”
If the two preseason games are a sign of things to come, French is ready to make some noise on Saturday against American Heritage and throughout his junior run.
“We had two preseason games; they were both good games,” French stated. “We played Archbishop Caroll the week before last, on Aug. 10, we won that one 28-7. I had two touchdowns in that game. Last weekend we played St. Joe Prep out of Philly. We won 35-14. I had two TDs in the air.”
The camp circuit and upside has brought offers from Marshall and Charlotte French’s way. The 2025 prospect listed out the teams showing interest, “Miami-Ohio, Cincinnati, Duke, and Virginia Tech.”
Backyard Power 5 program Maryland hosted French over the off-season.
“It was a really good visit,” French shared. “We went back up there at the end of July. They were both really good visits. I talk to the Maryland’s staff a little bit, got to talk to them when I was on campus, and they came around to my school.”
Fall visits are getting set.
“I want to visit Miami-Ohio, Virginia Tech, ODU, and Marshall,” French said.
Holding that scholarship opportunity from the Thundering Herd, French spoke about his relationship with the coaching staff, “I went on a Junior Day visit there. I talked with their coaches one-on-one; I had great conversations with all of them. I talk to their recruiting staff almost every day.”
The Cadets square off against the Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
