Picking up where he left off, Luke Warnock (6-1, 190) is taking it to Florida defenses. The 2024 quarterback has torched the competition in the early goings of the season showcasing his three-star recruiting status. Under Warnock’s guidance, Cardinal Newman (West Palm Beach) has started off 2-0 taking down Monsignor Pace (42-17) and Belen Jesuit (41-0) with another challenging contest on Friday when Massachusetts powerhouse Catholic Memorial comes to town.
The 2022 season stat sheet was filled by Warnock with 2,296 yards passing and 34 touchdowns while completing 64 percent of his attempts. His senior campaign has been even more impressive to date covering 481 yards with seven scores posted while completing his attempts at a 78 percent rate.
“The season is going well,” Warnock said. “It is going well. We have a really good team coming back. We lost a lot of seniors, but we got a lot of transfers. This year we have a new offensive coordinator as well, coach Ryan Partridge. He came from UMass; he was the receivers coach there.
“Coach Patridge brings a fast-paced offense. We take shots, and the game is schemed well. I think it makes our team dangerous, especially when we click. The scoreboard is showing it, we have put up 40 in the past two games.”
Warnock gave more detail to the Crusaders’ new offense, “It is kind of a spread. We run to set up the pass; we have two great running backs. We spread the ball out, we bunch up – we do everything. Coach Jack (Daniels) likes to pound the rock, but he likes to take shots too because we have speed on the outside.”
The offseason drills and hours of throwing are paying off on the gridiron this fall.
“My improvements are being less frantic, calmer, and understanding defenses better,” Warnock shared. “I am reading defenses better, not escaping the pocket when I don’t have to, and I have more drive on the ball. The ball has more zip on it this year; that is what I wanted to fix going into the offseason.”
UAB, Lehigh, Massachusetts, Maryland, Louisville, and Charlotte have handed over scholarship opportunities with heavy interest coming Warnock’s way.
“Jacksonville State, Columbia, Dartmouth, and Harvard are showing interest,” Warnock stated.
Out of New York, the Lions are one of the teams building a rapport with the three-star gunslinger.
“We have a really good relationship,” Warnock said. “Coach (Sky) Mornhinweg, their QB coach, has been reaching out to me. So has coach (Justin) Stovall (DC); he recruits south Florida. They send me good luck graphics and are texting me twice a week checking up.”
After the Blazers offered Warnock in early June, a mid-June two-day visit with UAB left Warnock impressed.
“I am a big fan of coach (Alex) Mortensen (OC) and coach (Trent) Dilfer,” Warnock shared. “Coach Mortensen and I have a great relationship built off the two days I was there. We text each other.”
Working around Cardinal Newman’s schedule, game-day visits are being planned for Warnock.
