The game film shows it all, sideline to sideline, down in the box, stops for a loss, and ball hawking across the secondary, Rashad Johnson (6-2, 180) is that do-all safety for South Sumter High School (Bushnell, Fla.). The four-star had a busy offseason making the recruiting rounds with the payoff being more offers developing in the pipeline.
After producing 51 stops, two tackles for a loss, two picks, and five passes broken up with a 51-yard touchdown on the stat sheet, Johnson and the Raiders (1-0) are back at it.
“Our season is going good,” Johnson stated. “We are building team chemistry, playing as a team more, and the leadership is going up. For me, it is going okay. It is not how I wanted it to start but it will come through eventually.”
The goal for Johnson on the gridiron this season is simple, “I want to show that I will come downhill and hit someone. A lot of people are saying I am missing that, now it is time to show them.”
Florida and Kansas, among others, are showing interest with 13 offers extended. Johnson listed off the squads keeping his phone busy, “Alabama, Penn State, USF, UCF, Western Michigan, Oregon State, and Kentucky.”
Communication out of Tuscaloosa is an everyday thing for Johnson.
“Alabama is cool; I like them a lot,” Johnson shared. “They hit me up every day. They are keeping me updated and sending me invites to the games to get me up there. It is cool.”
Time developing bonds with Johnson has UCF making a big early impact in the four-star’s recruitment.
“Right now, UCF feels like home,” Johnson stated. “They treat me like I am at home. Their love is different from other coaches.”
Over the summer, private workouts were scheduled with Georgia and Florida State with camp performances at Florida, Miami, and Alabama. Another handful of possible visits are being planned for the fall schedule.
“I visit Miami on Sept. 9 (Texas A&M),” Johnson said. “I might take visits to UCF, USF, and Penn State this season.”
Talking about the upcoming Miami game-day, Johnson added, “I am very excited. Miami is my dream college; it will mean a lot to me.”
Staying in-state, Johnson spoke about his recruiting relationship with the Bulls in Tampa, “They show a lot of love. Coach (Will) Bahler (dir. HS recruiting) and (James) Rowe (DB), they hit me up a lot. They send me good luck messages every week before the game and tell me to prepare my body. They show a lot of love too.”
The Raiders are back on the field Friday, Sept. 1, with a game against North Miami (0-1).
