For college football fans, the summer months are proving to be an early Christmas. High school and junior college players across the country are taking unofficial and official visits to programs of interest in hopes of finding that next level fit bringing offseason excitement to the sport. Out of Lee County High School (Leesburg, Ga.), safety Devin Collier (5-11, 200) is sorting through 21 scholarship opportunities with recruiting interest still coming in from D-I teams. One paid for visit has been set with a list of contenders building for the three-star prospect giving fans more reasons to show interest in their favorite squads.
Recent visits have been taken to Florida State, Memphis, Florida A&M, Georgia Tech, Troy, and USF with Coastal Carolina, Oregon, Boston College, UAB, and Iowa State continuing to evaluate Collier.
The teams making regular contact was shared, “Arkansas, USF (South Florida), Duke, Minnesota, Troy, Memphis, Ole Miss, FAU (Florida Atlantic) is a little, Middle Tennessee, and Georgia State.”
On June 23, Collier takes his first official visit.
“Duke, that is all for right now,” Collier stated. “I want to do some visits during the season. I want to get some options during the season to make my decision then.”
Collier spoke about his enthusiasm for spending time with the Blue Devils.
“I am very excited,” Collier shared. “My dad loves their school. He loves their basketball program. Duke provides a great education. It is great getting a degree from there, that means a lot. I love a lot about Duke.”
The rapport with the coaching staff in Durham was covered.
“I am pretty cool with their staff,” Collier said. “Their defensive coordinator, coach (Tyler) Santucci, and coach (Lyle) Hemphill (DB), we are talking a lot. We’ve been talking since last season, before I got the offer. I have a strong relationship with them.”
While in Durham, Collier will conduct a private workout with the Blue Devils.
“I am supposed to do one with Duke, with coach Dwayne Thomas, their assistant DB coach, when I am there,” Collier stated.
Another visit could happen this summer if all aligns right.
“I am thinking about taking an unofficial to JMU (James Madison), other than that, nothing is planned,” Collier shared. “I want to get a lot of schools closer to me out of the way and then during the season take the far away visits.”
Looking down the line, potential official visit locations were listed, “I most definitely want to take one to Iowa State, USF, and Minnesota; I pushed that one back (Minnesota). I’d love to take one to Ole Miss, Memphis, and FAU.”
