There are a lot of truly talented under the radar seniors working their collective butts off to show recruiting sites and college coaches just how special of a player they can be for a given program. One of the best players out there that few shamefully have not heard about is Miles Reed.

Reed is the starting running back for Centennial High School, MaxPreps No. 7 ranked team in the nation. The Corona (CA) squad is a two-point conversion away from arguably being the No. 1 ranked team in the nation falling to IMG Academy (ranked No. 2), 50-49, with the Ascenders converting on the last second game winning score. During the primetime matchup aired on Fox Sports, Reed showed his workhorse abilities to the nation carrying the rock 41 times for 179 yards with three scores against some of the top talent in the nation, including top linebacker Dylan Moses.

That kind of stat line is nothing new for Reed. If the Huskies are not too far ahead early allowing him opportunities on the field to keep racking up stats, he has blistered teams like Chandler for 302 yards and Notre Dame High School for 116. On the season, the 5-8, 185 pound, back has showed out compiling roughly 888 yards on 137 carries with 13 rushing scores.

Colleges have been slow to come around on Reed after he backed up Class of 2016 tailback JJ Taylor, an Arizona Wildcat signee, a year ago. Even then, Reed showed signs of what he could do tallying 540 yards off 91 carries with nine touchdowns. The teams to offer early includes Hawaii, Kentucky Christian, and Montana. The teams showing interest includes Cal, Arkansas, Nebraska, USC, Washington, and UCLA among others.

Over the weekend, Reed and two of his Centennial teammates, wide receiver Justin Fisher and cornerback Reggie Whitfield, unofficially visited Arizona.

In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I caught up with Reed after his unofficial visit to get his insight on what turned out to be a very positive visit to Tucson and received an overview on his great season thus far.

Interview

Miles, let’s get to it. How did the visit to Arizona go?

“It was great. We got there and they showed us VIP hospitality. They showed us around the stadium, the player’s lounge, and the weight room. Everything with the tour and our visit was well put together and well organized. We really enjoyed it.”

Which coaches did you meet with during your visit and what all did they have to say to you personally?

“I met with Coach Rich Rodriguez (head coach), Coach (Calvin) McGee (co-offensive coordinator and running backs coach, and Coach (Charlie) Ragle (assistant coach). We went over how my season is going. They said they were impressed and very excited about how well I have played. They told me to keep on doing what I am doing and keep pushing forward.”

Did they talk about how they would use you within their offense?

“They told me they would use me the same way they use JJ (Taylor). I’m a little bit bigger than JJ (5-6, 170). I think they might be down a couple of running backs there. It all seemed very positive.”

Do you plan on visiting Arizona again?

“I hope so, but I’m waiting for the coaches to pull the trigger. If they do, I will definitely take another visit down there.”

What other visits do you have scheduled coming up?

“I’m taking an official to Montana on Oct. 8. I’m taking an unofficial to USC this weekend with Reggie and Justin.”

Other than the teams we just discussed, which other teams are showing a lot of interest in you right now?

“Utah, USC, UCLA, and Oregon.”

Last question about your visit, what was the game experience like for you at Arizona?

“The game, it was unlike any other visit I have taken. It felt like we were part of the school sitting in the student section. I saw some guys we had played against in the past and guys we’ve played with like JJ Taylor.”

The Huskies are 4-1 right now. How does the team look at the halfway point of the season?

“We look good, we look really good. As the season goes along we are becoming more unified as a team. Early on we were a little separated. We’ve turned that around and are playing for each other not for ourselves.”

How do you feel your season is going?

“It is going well. I’ve rushed for around 888 yards with 13 touchdowns so far. I think I have proven a point letting everyone know that I can compete with all the other running backs getting national attention. I hope I have proven my point to be included on that list.”

My hand is raised – I’m sold.

(Laughs)

Remind me, have you taken the ACT or SAT?

“I took the SAT and got a 1020 on it. I’m taking all the tests again starting in November to try to get a better score.”

Miles, thanks for your time today and good luck with the rest of your season.

“Thank you.”
